وسط تحفظات أوروبية وأوكرانية، أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (السبت)، أن اقتراحه الحالي لإنهاء الحرب في أوكرانيا ليس عرضاً نهائياً.
وقال ترمب للصحفيين: «يجب أن تنتهي الحرب بطريقة أو بأخرى»، وعندما سئل عن اقتراحه ما إذا كان يمثل عرضاً نهائياً، أجاب: «لا».
وكان خمسة من أعضاء مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي ثلاثة ديمقراطيين، وسناتور مستقل، وآخر جمهوري قد أعربوا عن مخاوف جدية من تفاصيل خطة ترمب، مؤكدين أنه لن يحقق سلاماً دائماً عبر تقديم تنازلات متتالية لبوتين، أو بإضعاف قدرة أوكرانيا على الدفاع عن نفسها.
وقال اعضاء مجلس الشيوخ: التاريخ علمنا أن بوتين لا يفهم إلا القوة، ولن يحترم أي اتفاق لا يكون مضموناً بالقوة، مشددين على ضرورة التشاور مع أوكرانيا وحلف شمال الأطلسي قبل أي خطوة.
وطالب الأعضاء بضرورة ممارسة ضغط حقيقي على روسيا للجلوس إلى طاولة المفاوضات.
واعتبر رئيس لجنة القوات المسلحة، السيناتور الجمهوري روجر ويكر، خطة السلام تنطوي على مشاكل حقيقية، قائلاً: أشك بشدة في قدرتها على إحلال السلام، ولا ينبغي إجبار أوكرانيا على التنازل عن أراضيها لأحد.
من جهته، رفض الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي الخطة، مؤكداً أنه سيقدم بدائل للإدارة الأمريكية.
وذكرت مصادر متطابقة أن مسؤولين من الولايات المتحدة وأوكرانيا ودول أوروبية سيجتمعون في سويسرا، غداً (الأحد) لبحث خطة ترمب.
ويواصل القادة الأوروبيون صياغة رد منسق بعد أن طلب الرئيس الأمريكي من كييف قبول خطته المكونة من 28 بنداً بحلول الخميس القادم.
Amid European and Ukrainian reservations, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed today (Saturday) that his current proposal to end the war in Ukraine is not a final offer.
Trump told reporters, "The war has to end one way or another," and when asked if his proposal represented a final offer, he replied, "No."
Five U.S. senators, three Democrats, an independent senator, and one Republican, expressed serious concerns about the details of Trump's plan, asserting that it would not achieve lasting peace by making successive concessions to Putin or by weakening Ukraine's ability to defend itself.
The senators stated: History has taught us that Putin only understands power and will not respect any agreement that is not backed by strength, emphasizing the need to consult with Ukraine and NATO before any steps are taken.
The members called for real pressure to be exerted on Russia to come to the negotiating table.
Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Republican Senator Roger Wicker, considered the peace plan to have real problems, saying: I seriously doubt its ability to bring about peace, and Ukraine should not be forced to concede its territory to anyone.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the plan, confirming that he would present alternatives to the U.S. administration.
Matching sources reported that officials from the United States, Ukraine, and European countries will meet in Switzerland tomorrow (Sunday) to discuss Trump's plan.
European leaders continue to formulate a coordinated response after the U.S. president requested that Kyiv accept his 28-point plan by next Thursday.
