Preserving the Sports History of the Kingdom
Authored the first sports book in the history of the Kingdom
Passed away after a journey of seven decades as a player, referee, historian, media figure, academic, and administrator
He was always passionate about his country and loyal to his nation's leadership
Left a legacy consisting of a sports museum and 50 books
He was not just a writer of sports history, but one of its creators
His creative contributions reflect a national vision and a knowledge project
He dedicated his life, devoted his efforts, and spent his time and money to document our sports history
His writings filled a significant gap in our national and Arab library, committed to the issues of his homeland and nation
“O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing. Enter among My servants and enter My Paradise.” Allah, the Almighty, has spoken the truth.
The news of the death of my dear brother, Dr. Amin Sa'ati, was shocking and devastating.. It shook my being, and I was overwhelmed with sorrow, with tears frozen in my eyes.. I felt as if something priceless had been taken from me.. For I had spoken with him two days before his passing, and I asked him if Al-Ittihad Club had ever been relegated.. He said never, but they played to avoid relegation with Al-Sharq Club.. The reason was that points were deducted from them, placing them in last place while Al-Sharq was the first club in the second division.. He said he attended all these matches.
Dr. Amin - may God have mercy on him - was not just a brother; he was and will always be my role model and idol.. My mentor and teacher, he raised and educated me, and he is the one who guided me and is the one who deserves credit after God for all that I have achieved.
He was a multi-talented star
Dr. Amin - may God bless his soul - was not an ordinary person; he was a shining star with multiple talents since his youth.. A creative innovator in every field he engaged in.. In education, in his professional and academic work, in media, in sports, in history, and documentation.. Throughout his fruitful career filled with giving and achievement, he was a national model, passionate about his country and loyal to its leadership.. Mr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mushaykh, the general supervisor of the Academy for Documenting Cultural and Civilizational Heritage, stated in an article published in Al-Jazirah newspaper: “Dr. Amin Sa'ati was a pioneer in documentation, creativity, and achievement, and a role model in integrity, responsibility, and professionalism. Dr. Amin's experience is a journey that includes several experiences in one experience, several creators in one creator, and a series of successes in a rich journey and a series of achievements in the record of one man.” He added: “Dr. Sa'ati, with his abundant production in the field of documentation and studies, in addition to his prolific output in intellectual, economic, and social articles through print and electronic newspapers, reflects a national thought and vision and a human knowledge project in development, civilization, and progress that enriched the mind with important information and filled a significant gap in our national and Arab library, committed to the issues of his homeland and nation.”
His passion for knowledge and obtaining a doctorate
In the field of education, he was passionate about knowledge and teaching.. He continued his education until he reached the highest levels, sacrificing prestigious job opportunities for this purpose.. He obtained his high school diploma from the prestigious Al-Falah School in Jeddah, then earned a bachelor's degree in (Economics) from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, then he was sent to continue his graduate studies in the United States, where he obtained a master's degree from the University of California and a doctorate from Claremont University.
.. Minister Plenipotentiary
In his professional career, his last position was as (Minister Plenipotentiary at the Arab League).. He then worked in academia as a professor of sports management for master's students at King Abdulaziz University.
Deputy Editor-in-Chief of "Okaz"
In the field of media, Dr. Amin is considered a pioneer.. He is one of the founders of the newspaper "Okaz" along with its late founder, Mr. Ahmed Abdulghafour Attar.. He was the first person responsible for sports in the newspaper since its inception, then he took over the sports section at different stages, later becoming the managing editor, then the deputy editor-in-chief.. He left it to continue his graduate studies in the United States. Until his death - may God have mercy on him - he was a member of the Board of Directors of Okaz for Press and Publishing.
A prominent star in Al-Ittihad team and the Saudi national team
In football, he started young in the Al-Ittihad youth team, then progressed to the first division team to become a shining star, participating among the stars who won the King’s Cup three consecutive years: 1378, 1379, 1380 AH. He also participated with the Kingdom's national team in 1380 AH.
He did not stop there; after retiring, he turned to refereeing.. He started as a second-degree referee, then became a first-degree referee and officiated the most important matches.
Contributed to preserving our sports history
In the field of sports history and documentation, he is not only the dean of Saudi historians but is also, as described by the well-known Kuwaiti historian Hussein Al-Balushi, the (Dean of Arab Sports Historians).. He is the founder of the science of sports history in our country..
He contributed to preserving sports history.. He was the one who published the first Saudi sports book, which is the book (Al-Ittihad in History) published in 1962.
In a journey that extended for nearly seven decades filled with achievements dedicated to serving sports, media, and documentation in the Kingdom.. He is one of the pioneers who laid the foundations of the history of sports movement in the Kingdom..
He dedicated his life, time, effort, and money to document the history of the sports movement in the Kingdom.. He documented it in published books.
Who else could write an encyclopedia of the history of the sports movement in the Kingdom with this volume of volumes..
And those who came after him learned from him and his books.
The truth is that Dr. Amin is very different from others; he relies on scientific foundations in documentation due to his academic background.. He is different because he witnessed the founders who established the clubs, and he lived through the sports leadership and was close to it.. He is different because he was a firsthand witness to sports events over the decades.. He is different because he traveled across all regions of the Kingdom, north and south, east and west, in search of and documenting sports information.. He is different because he published what he wrote during the lives of the founders, and none of them objected; because the information came from them.. He is different because he is not only a contemporary witness to our sports history, but he is also one of the creators of this history as a player, referee, media figure, administrator, and academic.
He contributed greatly to the nation in the field of documentation
Mr. Al-Mushaykh says: “Dr. Amin has a serious and sound scientific vision; he has contributed a lot to the nation in the field of sports and social documentation. He is an exceptional figure in knowledge and methodology. His message is to highlight the values, concepts, and national principles that he seeks to instill in memory and embed in the conscience.. He plays a pioneering role in documenting our sports history and a significant contribution to shaping our culture and national thought”.. He contributed to preserving the sports history of the nation and documented it in encyclopedias and books.
He left a rich and abundant legacy
Dr. Amin Sa'ati's fingerprints will remain immortal in preserving the memory of Saudi sports.. He will remain - even after his departure - a towering figure and a great national symbol who contributed to the awareness of sports and documenting its journey.. He is a pioneer in sports documentation and academia, and he is one of the symbols in sports and thought.. He is the Saudi sports library – as described by my colleague Turki Al-Sudairi – and he is the encyclopedia of documentation – as dubbed by my colleague Abdullah Flatih – and he is the icon of sports history in the Kingdom – as described by Dr. Jassim Al-Yaqout.
Even though he has departed physically, he will remain present through the legacy he left behind.. For he left more than fifty books in the fields of sports and his scientific specialty and about the social environment of the city of Jeddah.. These will be available for generations to come for reference and for researchers, university students, and their professors to refer to.
The Sports Museum
Since Dr. Amin Sa'ati is a creative and innovative personality, he established a sports museum that tells the history of sports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the sports leaders and players who have graced our sports fields. He spent his own money on it; to contribute to serving his country by preserving its sports history.
The Father of Doctors
Despite his busy schedule with writing and documenting history, Dr. Amin - may God have mercy on him - was an ideal family man.. He cared for his children and raised them well, and all of them are doctors serving their country and community in the noblest profession.
Lessons and Morals for Generations
Finally, I say, as Mr. Al-Mushaykh stated: The lessons and morals are before our generations seeking a model and role model to learn about inspiring success stories that motivate them to face the challenges of the future.. Dr. Amin's journey is a success story from which we draw important lessons and morals. His books will remain the most important reference for researchers, university students, and their professors.
In conclusion, I can only pray to the Almighty to admit our dear departed, Dr. Amin Sa'ati, into His vast mercy and forgiveness.. Indeed, we belong to God and indeed to Him we shall return. We thank God for this love and appreciation that everyone holds for the dear deceased, which has been manifested through the widespread reactions to his passing.
