بدعوة رسمية من الإدارة الأمريكية، وصل وزير الخارجية السوداني محيي الدين سالم إلى الولايات المتحدة، اليوم(الجمعة)، في زيارة رسمية لمناقشة الجهود الرامية إلى وقف الحرب الدائرة في السودان منذ أكثر من عامين.
وأفادت مصادر مطلعة بأن الوزير السوداني سيجري سلسلة من الاجتماعات في واشنطن مع مسؤولين بالإدارة الأمريكية، بينهم كبير مستشاري الرئيس الأمريكي لشؤون الشرق الأوسط وإفريقيا مسعد بولس.
ومن المقرر أن يعقد وزير خارجية السودان لقاءات مع عدد من نظرائه العرب.
ويتوقع أن تشهد الساعات القادمة اجتماعات للّجنة الرباعية الدولية المعنية بالملف السوداني، والتي تضم السعودية والولايات المتحدة، ومصر والإمارات، لبحث سبل إحياء المبادرات الدبلوماسية الهادفة إلى إنهاء الحرب.
وأعلن مسؤول دبلوماسي أمس (الخميس)، أن دول الرباعية ستجتمع اليوم في واشنطن مع ممثلين عن الجيش السوداني وقوات الدعم السريع لدفع الطرفين إلى هدنة إنسانية تمتد لثلاثة أشهر.
وقال إن الهدف هو «الضغط بشكل موحّد لتثبيت وقف إطلاق النار والسماح بدخول المساعدات الإنسانية إلى المدنيين»، في وقت تستمر فيه الغارات بالطائرات المسيّرة على العاصمة الخرطوم لليوم الثالث على التوالي.
وأصدرت اللجنة الرباعية في شهر سبتمبر الماضي بيانًا مشتركًا دعت فيه إلى هدنة إنسانية يتبعها وقف دائم لإطلاق النار، ثم فترة انتقالية نحو حكم مدني تمتد تسعة أشهر.

وألقت الحرب بظلالها على ملايين السودانيين الذين يعيشون في ظروف إنسانية صعبة، إذ أدى النزاع إلى مقتل عشرات الآلاف وتشريد أكثر من 14 مليون شخص داخل البلاد وخارجها، أي نحو ثلث السكان، وفق تقديرات أممية.
At the official invitation of the U.S. administration, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salim arrived in the United States today (Friday) for an official visit to discuss efforts aimed at ending the war that has been ongoing in Sudan for more than two years.
Informed sources reported that the Sudanese minister will hold a series of meetings in Washington with officials from the U.S. administration, including the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Middle Eastern and African Affairs, Musaad Boulos.
The Sudanese Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet with several of his Arab counterparts.
The coming hours are expected to witness meetings of the international quartet committee concerned with the Sudanese file, which includes Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt, and the UAE, to discuss ways to revive diplomatic initiatives aimed at ending the war.
A diplomatic official announced yesterday (Thursday) that the quartet countries will meet today in Washington with representatives from the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to push both parties towards a humanitarian ceasefire lasting three months.
He stated that the goal is to "unified pressure to establish a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians," while drone strikes continue over the capital Khartoum for the third consecutive day.
Last September, the quartet committee issued a joint statement calling for a humanitarian ceasefire followed by a permanent ceasefire, and then a transitional period towards civilian rule lasting nine months.
However, the war continues between the army forces led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, for the third consecutive year.
The war has cast a shadow over millions of Sudanese who are living in difficult humanitarian conditions, as the conflict has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of more than 14 million people inside and outside the country, which is about one-third of the population, according to UN estimates.
