اعتقلت الشرطة البريطانية، اليوم (الخميس)، ثلاثة رجال يُشتبه في مساعدتهم لجهاز الاستخبارات الروسي، ووفقاً لبيان الشرطة فإن الرجال، الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 44 و48 عاماً، جرى اعتقالهم في عدة مواقع مختلفة في غرب ووسط لندن.
وقالت الشرطة إنه يجري في الوقت الراهن تفتيش العناوين التي يقطن فيها المتهمون الثلاثة، وعنوان آخر، مضيفة أن شرطة مكافحة الإرهاب تقود التحقيق.
تجنيد عملاء لاستخبارات أجنبية
وقال رئيس شرطة مكافحة الإرهاب في لندن، دومينيك مورفي: «نشهد عدداً متزايداً ممن يمكن أن نصفهم بأنهم (عملاء) يجري تجنيدهم من قبل أجهزة استخبارات أجنبية، وهذه الاعتقالات مرتبطة مباشرة بجهودنا المستمرة لتعطيل هذا النوع من النشاط»، مؤكدة أن الاعتقالات جرت بموجب قانون الأمن القومي، الذي تم إقراره في عام 2023، والذي يهدف إلى السماح للمدعين العامين بمحاكمة المشتبه بهم بالتجسس في مجموعة أوسع من الظروف.
روسيا تنفي الاتهامات
تأتي هذه التطورات في الوقت الذي كان يجري فيه الحكم على 6 رجال لدورهم في هجوم حرق متعمد على شركات مرتبطة بأوكرانيا في شرق لندن العام الماضي، والذي قال مدّعون عامّون إنه تم تنفيذه بأمر من مجموعة مرتزقة «فاغنر».
وكان زعيم المجموعة، ديلان إيرل، أول شخص تجري إدانته بموجب قانون الأمن القومي.
ونفى الكرملين الاتهامات بتورطه في أي أعمال تخريبية من هذا القبيل، موضحاً إن الحكومة البريطانية تلوم روسيا بشكل متكرر على أي أمر «سيئ» يحدث في بريطانيا.
The British police arrested three men today (Thursday) who are suspected of assisting the Russian intelligence service. According to a police statement, the men, aged between 44 and 48, were arrested at several different locations in West and Central London.
The police stated that searches are currently being conducted at the addresses where the three suspects reside, as well as another address, adding that the counter-terrorism police are leading the investigation.
Recruiting Agents for Foreign Intelligence
The head of the counter-terrorism police in London, Dominic Murphy, said: “We are witnessing an increasing number of what we can describe as (agents) being recruited by foreign intelligence services, and these arrests are directly linked to our ongoing efforts to disrupt this kind of activity,” confirming that the arrests were made under the National Security Act, which was enacted in 2023, aimed at allowing prosecutors to prosecute suspects for espionage under a broader range of circumstances.
Russia Denies the Allegations
These developments come at a time when six men were being sentenced for their role in an arson attack on companies linked to Ukraine in East London last year, which prosecutors said was carried out on the orders of the Wagner mercenary group.
The leader of the group, Dylan Earl, was the first person to be convicted under the National Security Act.
The Kremlin denied the allegations of involvement in any such sabotage, explaining that the British government repeatedly blames Russia for any “bad” thing that happens in Britain.
