أكدت الإدارة القنصلية في وزارة الخارجية والمغتربين السورية اليوم (الإثنين) أن زياد زهر الدين الذي كان يشغل منصب القنصل العام السوري في دبي قد نُقل إلى الإدارة المركزية بدمشق وانتهت مهماته في القنصلية في 20 سبتمبر الماضي.
وقالت الوزارة إن ما صدر عن المذكور من تصريحات ومواقف في الآونة الأخيرة لا يمثل الدولة السورية أو سياساتها الرسمية، وإنما يعكس موقفاً شخصياً بحتاً يتنافى مع الأعراف الدبلوماسية وأخلاقيات العمل القنصلي، موضحة أن القنصلية السورية في دبي مستمرة في أداء مهماتها، وتحترم بشكل كامل قوانين وأنظمة دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة.
وكان القنصل السوري السابق في دبي زياد زهر الدين قد أعلن أمس رفضه مواصلة العمل في منصبه احتجاجاً على ما قال إنها «أحداث العنف في السويداء».
وأعرب عن تأييده لمطالب «حق تقرير المصير» في المحافظة السورية الجنوبية، التي رفعها القيادي الدرزي حكمت الهجري.
يذكر أن محافظة السويداء، الواقعة جنوب سورية، التي تقطنها أغلبية درزية، كانت شهدت في يوليو الماضي اشتباكات عنيفة بين مسلحين دروز وعشائر من البدو، ما دفع القوات الأمنية إلى التدخل من أجل وقف الاشتباكات.
The consular administration at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed today (Monday) that Ziad Zahreddin, who held the position of Syrian Consul General in Dubai, has been transferred to the central administration in Damascus and his duties at the consulate ended on September 20.
The ministry stated that the statements and positions made by the aforementioned individual recently do not represent the Syrian state or its official policies, but rather reflect a purely personal stance that contradicts diplomatic norms and the ethics of consular work, clarifying that the Syrian consulate in Dubai continues to perform its duties and fully respects the laws and regulations of the United Arab Emirates.
Former Syrian Consul in Dubai Ziad Zahreddin announced yesterday his refusal to continue working in his position in protest against what he called the "violence events in Sweida."
He expressed his support for the demands of the "right to self-determination" in the southern Syrian governorate, raised by Druze leader Hikmat al-Hajri.
It is worth noting that the governorate of Sweida, located in southern Syria and predominantly inhabited by Druze, witnessed violent clashes last July between armed Druze and Bedouin tribes, prompting security forces to intervene to stop the fighting.
