منعت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية الوفد الإيراني المشارك في اجتماعات الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في نيويورك من الوصول إلى الأسواق الكبرى والسلع الفاخرة، وبحسب وكالة «بلومبيرغ» فإن الدبلوماسيين الإيرانيين المتواجدين في نيويورك منعوا من شراء السلع دون موافقة مسبقة من الولايات المتحدة.
وقال المتحدث باسم الخارجية الأمريكية تومي بيجوت اليوم: «لن نسمح للنظام الإيراني بأن يتيح لنخب رجال الدين القيام بجولات تسوق في نيويورك بينما يعاني الشعب الإيراني من الفقر وتدهور البنية التحتية ونقص حاد في المياه والكهرباء»، مضيفاً: وزير الخارجية، ماركو روبيو، طلب أن يقتصر تحرك الوفد الإيراني على الوصول إلى مقر الأمم المتحدة فقط.
اشتراطات أمريكية
واشترطت الخارجية الأمريكية على الإيرانيين ومرافقيهم لحضور فعالية الأمم المتحدة الكبرى، الحصول على إذن من الحكومة الأمريكية قبل السماح لهم بالتسوق في متاجر الجملة مثل «كوستكو» أو «سامز كلوب» التابعة لشركة «وول مارت»، أو إذا كانوا يرغبون في شراء أي سلع فاخرة، وفقاً لوثيقة نُشرت على موقع السجل الفيدرالي، اليوم.
وخضعت طهران لقيود من الولايات المتحدة، على الزوار في الماضي وشددوا على البقاء ضمن دائرة نصف قطرها 25 ميلاً من تقاطع «كولومبوس سيركل»، وهي قاعدة تنطبق أيضاً على الدول الأخرى الخاضعة للعقوبات مثل كوبا وفنزويلا.
تسوق الوفد الإيراني
وكانت مشتريات الوفود الإيرانية في السنوات السابقة أثارت انتقادات لاذعة، فقبل 3 سنوات بينهم الرئيس الإيراني السابق، إبراهيم رئيسي، الذي واجه انتقادات بعد عودة فريقه إلى طهران بشاحنة صغيرة محملة بالهدايا التذكارية.
وشهدت العلاقات بين إيران والولايات المتحدة توترا شديدا منذ الحرب التي استمرت 12 يوماً في يونيو الماضي، عندما هاجمت إسرائيل إيران، واستهدفت، بالتعاون مع الولايات المتحدة، منشآت نووية رئيسية.
واستخدمت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب نفوذها، لأغراض سياسية قبل انعقاد الجمعية العامة لهذا العام، مثل منع الرئيس الفلسطيني محمود عباس من الحصول على تأشيرة للتحدث أمام الأمم المتحدة. وصوتت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة للسماح له بإلقاء كلمة افتراضياً.
The U.S. State Department has prevented the Iranian delegation participating in the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York from accessing major markets and luxury goods. According to Bloomberg, Iranian diplomats in New York have been barred from purchasing goods without prior approval from the United States.
U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said today: "We will not allow the Iranian regime to enable its religious elite to go shopping in New York while the Iranian people suffer from poverty, deteriorating infrastructure, and severe shortages of water and electricity," adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has requested that the Iranian delegation's movements be limited to accessing the United Nations headquarters only.
American Conditions
The U.S. State Department has stipulated that Iranians and their companions attending the major United Nations event must obtain permission from the U.S. government before being allowed to shop at wholesale stores like Costco or Sam's Club, which are owned by Walmart, or if they wish to purchase any luxury goods, according to a document published on the Federal Register today.
Tehran has been subject to U.S. restrictions on visitors in the past, emphasizing that they must remain within a 25-mile radius of the Columbus Circle intersection, a rule that also applies to other sanctioned countries like Cuba and Venezuela.
Shopping by the Iranian Delegation
Purchases made by Iranian delegations in previous years have sparked sharp criticism, including three years ago when former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi faced backlash after his team returned to Tehran in a small truck loaded with souvenirs.
Relations between Iran and the United States have been extremely tense since the 12-day war last June when Israel attacked Iran, targeting, in cooperation with the United States, key nuclear facilities.
The administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump used its influence for political purposes ahead of this year's General Assembly, such as preventing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from obtaining a visa to speak before the United Nations. The United Nations General Assembly voted to allow him to deliver a speech virtually.
