كشفت مسؤولة السياسة الخارجية في الاتحاد الأوروبي كايا كالاس، اليوم (الأربعاء) اعتماد المفوضية مقترحا لتعليق جزئي للتفضيلات الجمركية مع إسرائيل، موضحة أن الهدف ليس معاقبة إسرائيل بل تحسين الوضع الإنساني في غزة.
وقالت كالاس:«جميع الدول الأعضاء متفقة على أن الوضع في غزة حرج، ويجب ألا نغفل التطورات الخطيرة بالضفة الغربية التي تقوض حل الدولتين».
جهل دولي
وتزامن الموقف الأوروبي مع انتقاد منظمة العفو الدولية (أمنستي) للمجتمع الدولي الذي قالت إنه تذرع بالجهل مع تراكم الأدلة على ارتكاب إسرائيل إبادة جماعية في غزة.
وأشارت إلى أنه من غير المعقول أن تواصل الدول التي تملك نفوذا على إسرائيل تزويدها بـ«الأسلحة والدعم الدبلوماسي لتدمير حياة الفلسطينيين»، معربة عن أسفها لاستمرار الشركات والمستثمرين في جني الأرباح من الإبادة الجماعية التي ترتكبها إسرائيل.
البابا يندد
في الوقت ذاته، قالت وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين (الأونروا) إن سكان غزة يعيشون خوفا متزايدا مع تصاعد القصف الإسرائيلي على المدينة وشمالها، محذرة من تفاقم المعاناة الإنسانية في القطاع.
من جهة أخرى، ندد البابا ليو الرابع عشر، اليوم، بالظروف «غير المقبولة» التي يواجهها الفلسطينيون في قطاع غزة، معرباً عن تضامنه مع المدنيين ومناشدته لوقف الحرب الإسرائيلية.
وقال البابا، خلال مقابلته العامة الأسبوعية في الفاتيكان: «أعبر عن قربي الشديد من الشعب الفلسطيني في غزة، الذي لا يزال يعيش في الخوف ويكافح للبقاء في ظروف غير مقبولة، ويُجبَر بالقوة على النزوح مرة أخرى عن أرضه»، داعياً لوقف إطلاق النار وتحرير الأسرى في غزة، والتوصل إلى حل دبلوماسي للصراع عبر التفاوض.
The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, revealed today (Wednesday) that the Commission has adopted a proposal for a partial suspension of trade preferences with Israel, clarifying that the goal is not to punish Israel but to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Kallas stated, "All member states agree that the situation in Gaza is critical, and we must not overlook the serious developments in the West Bank that undermine the two-state solution."
International Ignorance
The European stance coincided with criticism from Amnesty International regarding the international community, which it said has resorted to ignorance amidst mounting evidence of Israel's commission of genocide in Gaza.
It pointed out that it is unreasonable for countries with influence over Israel to continue supplying it with "weapons and diplomatic support to destroy the lives of Palestinians," expressing regret that companies and investors continue to profit from the genocide being perpetrated by Israel.
The Pope Condemns
At the same time, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated that the residents of Gaza are living in increasing fear as Israeli bombardment escalates in the city and its north, warning of a worsening humanitarian crisis in the sector.
On another note, Pope Leo XIV condemned today the "unacceptable" conditions faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, expressing his solidarity with civilians and calling for an end to the Israeli war.
During his weekly public audience at the Vatican, the Pope said, "I express my deep closeness to the Palestinian people in Gaza, who continue to live in fear and struggle to survive in unacceptable conditions, being forcibly displaced once again from their land," calling for a ceasefire, the release of prisoners in Gaza, and a diplomatic solution to the conflict through negotiation.
