The United Nations Human Rights Council announced today (Monday) that it will hold an emergency session in Geneva tomorrow (Tuesday) to discuss the repercussions of the Israeli attack on Qatar last week.

The Council explained that the session was convened at the request of Pakistan on behalf of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and from Kuwait on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council, noting that the emergency session on (Tuesday) will be the tenth of its kind held by the UN Human Rights Council since its establishment in 2006.

Punishing Israel

During the preparatory meeting for the Arab-Islamic summit, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called on the international community to punish Israel for its crimes in the region, explaining that his country is continuing its mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States to end the war in Gaza.

The Human Rights Council called for condemning the Israeli attack on his country, affirming that it is state terrorism.

The draft final statement expected to be issued by the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit emphasized that the Israeli aggression against Qatar and the continuation of aggressive Israeli practices undermine the chances of peace and threaten everything that has been achieved on the path to establishing normal relations with Israel, including existing and future agreements.

Israeli Threats

The draft statement rejected the repeated Israeli threats of potentially targeting Qatar again or any Arab or Islamic country.

The draft affirmed that the Israeli aggression against Qatar directly aims to undermine the ongoing efforts and mediations aimed at stopping the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
