قدم الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب عرضًا للسماح لمئات العمال الكوريين الجنوبيين المعتقلين خلال مداهمة تنفيذية للهجرة بالبقاء في الولايات المتحدة لتدريب العمال الأمريكيين، لكن فقط واحدًا منهم اختار الاستمرار في البقاء، وفقًا لمسؤولين كوريين جنوبيين.
أدى عرض ترمب إلى تأجيل رحلة طائرة شركة خاصة لمدة يوم واحد لإعادة هؤلاء العمال إلى وطنهم، وهي الآن مقررة لمغادرة الولايات المتحدة لاحقًا.
اعتقال 475 كوريا جنوبيا
وتم اعتقال نحو 300 كوري جنوبي الأسبوع الماضي إلى جانب 175 آخرين في موقع مشروع هيونداي موتور (بقيمة 4.3 مليار دولار) ولي إنيرجي سولوشن لبناء بطاريات السيارات الكهربائية في ولاية جورجيا.
وقال الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي لي جاي مينغ في مؤتمر صحفي، أمس (الخميس) إن إجراءات المغادرة توقفت أثناء استجابة المسؤولين لاقتراح ترمب.
وبحسب «رويترز» أمر ترمب المسؤولين الأمريكيين بتشجيع العمال المعتقلين في مصنع البطاريات على البقاء في البلاد، وفقًا لمسؤول في وزارة الخارجية الكورية الجنوبية، مضيفًا أن ترمب اقترح بقاءهم لمواصلة تدريب أو تعليم الأمريكيين.
رد كوريا الجنوبية على شرط ترمب
ورد وزير الخارجية الكوري الجنوبي تشو هيون، الذي كان في واشنطن لمناقشة القضية مع وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو، بمقترح أن يعود الكوريون إلى المنزل للراحة ثم يعودوا إذا أرادوا، وفقًا للمسؤول.
وقال تشو أيضًا إن العمال لن يُقيدوا بالأصفاد عند نقلهم من مركز الاعتقال إلى المطار، حسب وكالة يونهاب للأنباء. وعادةً ما تقيد سلطات الهجرة الأمريكية المهاجرين بالأصفاد والسلاسل أثناء رحلات الترحيل.
طائرة كورية لاستعادة العمال
وأرسلت كوريا الجنوبية طائرة شركة خاصة إلى أتلانتا لإعادة العمال المحتجزين في الولايات المتحدة، وأقام نشطاء حملة احتجاجية أمام السفارة الأمريكية في سيئول، حاملين لافتات تقول «لا أحد غير قانوني!»، مرددين شعارات تندد بالمداهمة الضخمة الأسبوع الماضي في موقع مشروع بطاريات السيارات الأمريكي الذي يشمل هيونداي موتور ولي إنيرجي سولوشن في ولاية جورجيا، في 11 سبتمبر 2025.
U.S. President Donald Trump offered to allow hundreds of South Korean workers detained during an immigration enforcement raid to stay in the United States to train American workers, but only one of them chose to remain, according to South Korean officials.
Trump's offer delayed a private company's flight by one day to return these workers to their home country, which is now scheduled to leave the United States later.
Arrest of 475 South Koreans
About 300 South Koreans were arrested last week along with 175 others at the site of the Hyundai Motor ($4.3 billion) and LG Energy Solution project to build electric vehicle batteries in Georgia.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said at a press conference yesterday (Thursday) that departure procedures were halted while officials responded to Trump's proposal.
According to Reuters, Trump ordered U.S. officials to encourage the detained workers at the battery factory to stay in the country, according to a South Korean Foreign Ministry official, adding that Trump suggested their stay to continue training or educating Americans.
South Korea's Response to Trump's Condition
South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, who was in Washington to discuss the issue with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, proposed that the Koreans return home to rest and then come back if they wish, according to the official.
Park also stated that the workers would not be handcuffed when being transferred from the detention center to the airport, according to the Yonhap News Agency. U.S. immigration authorities typically restrain immigrants with handcuffs and chains during deportation flights.
Korean Plane to Retrieve Workers
South Korea sent a private company plane to Atlanta to retrieve the detained workers in the United States, and activists held a protest campaign outside the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, carrying signs that read "No One is Illegal!" and chanting slogans denouncing the massive raid last week at the American battery project site involving Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution in Georgia, on September 11, 2025.
