فيما أبلغ رئيس الوزراء الكندي مارك كارني الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي اليوم (الأحد) بتأييده دعوات أوكرانيا إلى ضمانات أمنية قوية كجزء من أي اتفاق سلام، وعدم استبعاده إرسال قوات إلى كييف في هذا الإطار، أعلن نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جاي دي فانس أن روسيا ستشارك في محادثات الضمانات الأمنية لأوكرانيا.
وأوضح فانس لشبكة «إن بي سي» الأمريكية أن موسكو قدمت تنازلات مهمة بشأن كييف، معتبراً أن الروس قدموا تنازلات مهمة للرئيس ترمب للمرة الأولى منذ ثلاثة أعوام ونصف في هذا النزاع وأبدوا استعداداً لإظهار مرونة بخصوص عدد من مطالبهم الأساسية.
ولفت إلى أن موسكو تناقش ما هو مطلوب لوضع حد للحرب، مبيناً أن الولايات المتحدة تحاول التفاوض قدر الإمكان مع الروس والأوكرانيين من أجل إيجاد أرضية مشتركة ووقف القتل.
وأشار إلى أن ترمب يسعى إلى اعتماد دبلوماسية نشطة مع الطرفين لوضع حد للنزاع، مؤكداً أن الولايات المتحدة ترى أن القضيتين الأساسيتين اللتين يجب معالجتهما من أجل تسوية النزاع الأوكراني هما مسألة الأراضي والضمانات الأمنية لكييف.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قد التقى نظيره الروسي فلاديمير بوتين في ألاسكا في 15 أغسطس، وعقد عقبه اجتماعا مع الرئيس الأوكراني وقادة أوروبيين في واشنطن.
وأكد الرئيس الأمريكي أنه يعمل على جمع نظيريه الروسي والأوكراني، رغم أن حظوظ عقد اجتماع كهذا في الأيام الأخيرة تراجعت.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today (Sunday) of his support for Ukraine's calls for strong security guarantees as part of any peace agreement, and did not rule out sending troops to Kyiv in this context. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance announced that Russia will participate in talks regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.
Vance explained to NBC News that Moscow has made significant concessions regarding Kyiv, considering that the Russians have offered important concessions to President Trump for the first time in three and a half years in this conflict and have shown a willingness to demonstrate flexibility regarding several of their core demands.
He pointed out that Moscow is discussing what is needed to end the war, indicating that the United States is trying to negotiate as much as possible with both the Russians and the Ukrainians to find common ground and stop the killing.
He noted that Trump is seeking to adopt active diplomacy with both sides to put an end to the conflict, emphasizing that the United States sees the two main issues that must be addressed to resolve the Ukrainian conflict as the land issue and security guarantees for Kyiv.
U.S. President Donald Trump met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, and subsequently held a meeting with the Ukrainian president and European leaders in Washington.
The U.S. president confirmed that he is working to bring together his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, although the chances of holding such a meeting have diminished in recent days.
