أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم (الإثنين)، عزمه التحرك للتخلص من التصويت عبر البريد، مؤكداً أنه سيقود حركة للتخلص من ذلك.
وكتب في منشور على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي: «سأقود تحركاً للتخلص من الاقتراع عبر البريد، وأيضاً من أجهزة التصويت غير الدقيقة والمكلفة للغاية والمثيرة للجدل بشكل كبير»، مضيفاً: «سنبدأ هذا الجهد، الذي سيعارضه الديمقراطيون بشدة لأنهم يغشون بمستويات لم نشهدها من قبل، من خلال التوقيع على أمر تنفيذي للمساعدة في تحقيق النزاهة في انتخابات التجديد النصفي لعام 2026».
ولم يعترف ترمب قط بهزيمته في الانتخابات الرئاسية في 2020 أمام منافسه الرئيس السابق جو بايدن، مؤكداً أنه كان ضحية عمليات تزوير انتخابي واسع النطاق، وخصوصاً في التصويت عبر البريد، وهي طريقة مستخدمة على نطاق واسع في الولايات المتحدة.
ويشكل التصويت عبر البريد أحد هواجسه الرئيسية منذ الانتخابات الرئاسية التي جرت في 2020، رغم أنه كان قد وقع أمراً تنفيذياً في 25 مارس يستهدف الانتخابات، لكن تم تعطيله من قبل المحاكم بعد رفع دعاوى قضائية من ولايات يقودها ديمقراطيون، خصوصاً أن كل ولاية من الولايات الـ50 تجري انتخاباتها على حدة، لكن ترمب طالبهم بالامتثال للأمر.
وتقع مسؤولية تنظيم الانتخابات الفيدرالية في الولايات المتحدة على عاتق حكومات الولايات، بينما يقوم الكونغرس بوضع إطار معيّن لها، لكن ترمب يريد إعادة النظر في هذا الإجراء، معتبراً أن سلطة الحكومة الفيدرالية تعلو على سلطة الولايات.
وشدد ترمب بالقول: «للتذكير، الولايات هي مجرد وكيل للحكومة الفيدرالية في فرز الأصوات واحتسابها، وينبغي أن تفعل ما تُمليه عليها الحكومة الفيدرالية، ممثلة برئيس الولايات المتحدة، لما فيه مصلحة بلدنا».
U.S. President Donald Trump announced today (Monday) his intention to move to eliminate mail-in voting, asserting that he will lead a movement to get rid of it.
He wrote in a social media post: "I will lead a movement to eliminate mail-in voting, as well as the extremely inaccurate and costly voting machines that are highly controversial," adding: "We will begin this effort, which will be strongly opposed by the Democrats because they are cheating at levels we have never seen before, by signing an executive order to help ensure integrity in the 2026 midterm elections."
Trump has never acknowledged his defeat in the 2020 presidential election against his opponent, former President Joe Biden, insisting that he was a victim of widespread election fraud, particularly in mail-in voting, a method widely used in the United States.
Mail-in voting has been one of his main concerns since the 2020 presidential election, even though he signed an executive order on March 25 targeting the elections, which was blocked by courts after lawsuits were filed by Democratic-led states, especially since each of the 50 states conducts its elections separately, but Trump demanded they comply with the order.
The responsibility for organizing federal elections in the United States lies with state governments, while Congress sets a certain framework for them, but Trump wants to reconsider this procedure, arguing that federal government authority supersedes state authority.
Trump emphasized by saying: "To remind you, the states are merely agents of the federal government in counting and tabulating votes, and they should do what the federal government, represented by the President of the United States, dictates for the good of our country."
