A wave of condemnation and outrage was sparked by the statements of Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem, particularly regarding his threat that "there is no life for Lebanon" if the government confronts the party or disarms it.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned against irresponsible actions that encourage sedition, affirming that the words of Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem carry a veiled threat of civil war. Salam stated that the claim that the Lebanese government is executing an American-Israeli project is "a rejected narrative," adding: "Our decisions are purely Lebanese, made in our Council of Ministers, and no one imposes them on us." Salam noted that "the Taif Agreement is our charter, and it explicitly states the authority of the Lebanese state over all its territory with its own forces." He emphasized that there is no party in Lebanon authorized to carry weapons outside the framework of the Lebanese state. He confirmed that "no one has asked for Hezbollah's weapons to be handed over to the Israeli enemy as some promote, but to the Lebanese army, which we refuse to doubt its patriotism."
For his part, Lebanese Minister of Justice Adel Nassar announced that Naeem Qassem's statements are completely rejected, asserting that they threaten civil peace from illegitimate forces. In a statement today (Friday), he said: "The team supported by the Iranian government threatens the Lebanese government," adding that "Qassem opposes the Lebanese government while being a part of it." He accused "the armed team of undermining the foundations of the Lebanese state."
Nassar confirmed in an interview with Al-Ghad channel that any weapon outside the framework of official institutions is a blatant violation of the constitution and laws, stressing that this truth is not subject to discussion or compromise. He reiterated that the choice of the state is the only guarantee for everyone, and that the changing regional circumstances require all parties, including Hezbollah, to commit to the project of state-building instead of obstructing it.
For his part, former minister Ashraf Rifi affirmed that the party of Sheikh Naeem Qassem has bequeathed Lebanon occupation and humanitarian and economic catastrophe, noting that today, after the defeat, it threatens the state and the Lebanese people while claiming victimhood, and that his party is being attacked, and he accuses the majority of Lebanese of treason.
Rifi addressed "Hezbollah," saying: "Enough of fleeing forward; the solution is one: the state, then the state, then the state." He warned the former Minister of Justice "Hezbollah" against repeating the threat of civil war, affirming that it would be "a great catastrophe for everyone, especially for you after you have antagonized and wounded all the Lebanese components."
Rifi added, addressing the party and its supporters: "Return to the homeland and to the state, and free yourselves from your allegiance to the Iranian who is beginning to collapse in all the arenas he has entered in a historical illusion that has long passed."
