الكوليرا تفتك بدارفور.. 235 حالة وفاة بين النازحين

The number of deaths due to the cholera epidemic in the Darfur region has risen in recent hours, particularly within the displaced persons camps. The death toll has reached 235 cases as of last night (Sunday), since the outbreak of the disease in June, while daily infections have approached the 6,000 mark. The coordinator for displaced persons and refugees in Darfur warned of an unprecedented spread of the disease in new areas of Central Darfur and the Jebel Marra camps.

The epidemic is currently concentrated in the "Tawila" area west of El Fasher, where the largest number of displaced persons are located, in addition to the Martal and Tabra areas south of Tawila.

The emergency room of Abu Shouk camp in North Darfur announced the death of 60 people, most of whom are women, children, and the elderly, due to hunger and malnutrition in recent days.

The room confirmed that scenes of severe emaciation have become common among children and women, warning that the situation in El Fasher has surpassed the warning stage and has entered a state of imminent danger.

On the military front, informed sources revealed the deaths of elements belonging to the Rapid Support Forces inside a training camp in South Darfur due to shelling that targeted the site. The sources indicated that the attack resulted in the deaths of several soldiers.

Cities and towns in the Darfur and Kordofan regions of western Sudan, controlled by the Rapid Support Forces, are witnessing continuous air sorties and attacks by Sudanese army fighters aimed at destroying the Rapid Support Forces' hard power and breaking the logistical and military supply chains of these forces.

The World Health Organization announced last week that nearly 100,000 cases of cholera have been recorded since July 2024, as the war rages on, warning of worsening malnutrition, population displacement, and the spread of diseases.
