وصفت مديرة العمليات في مكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية إديم وسورنو الأوضاع في مدينة الفاشر بأنها «مأساوية»، مؤكدة على ضرورة الحصول على هدنة كافية لمساعدة الفرق الأممية على مواجهة الأوضاع في عاصمة ولاية شمال دارفور المحاصرة بالكامل.
وحذرت من أن الأوضاع الإنسانية في العاصمة الخُرطوم أصبحت كارثية، وأن المدينة باتت مدينة أشباح جراء الحرب.
وقالت إديم وسورنو إن مدينة الفاشر محاصرة بالكامل، وإن الأمم المتحدة تنتظر موافقة قوات الدعم السريع لإدخال المساعدات الإنسانية إلى السكان المحاصرين. وأضافت أن المنظمة حصلت على ضماناتٍ من الجيش السوداني، لكنها لا تزالُ تنتظرُ رداً مماثلاً من قوات الدعم السريع.
وكانت الأمم المتحدة حذرت قبل عدة أيام من أن أطفال الخرطوم الذين يتضوّرون جوعاً باتوا «جلداً على عظم»، وأن آلاف العائلات العالقة في براثن الحرب قد تموت من الجوع في مدينة الفاشر المحاصرة في غرب السودان.
وتسبّبت الحرب في السودان، التي اندلعت في منتصف أبريل 2023، في مقتل عشرات الآلاف، وتهجير وتشريد الملايين.
وتشتدّ وطأة سوء التغذية في ولاية الخرطوم، ولم يعد أطفال كثر سوى جلد على عظم، بحسب ما قال شيلدون يت ممثّل منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة (اليونيسف) في السودان الذي يشهد «أسوأ أزمة إنسانية» حالياً في العالم بحسب وصف الأمم المتحدة، حيث يعاني نحو 25 مليون شخص انعدام الأمن الغذائي الحاد.
وفي الفاشر المحاصرة من قوّات الدعم السريع، على بعد ألف كيلومتر من غرب العاصمة، يواجه آلاف الأشخاص خطر مجاعة وشيكاً بحسب برنامج الأغذية العالمي.
وكشف المدير الإقليمي لبرنامج الأغذية العالمي في شرق أفريقيا وجنوبها أن «القدرة على الصمود تلاشت بالكامل بعد أكثر من سنتين من الحرب. وستزهق أرواح في غياب وصول فوري ومستدام» إلى الموارد الأساسية.
وتحاصر قوّات الدعم السريع الفاشر منذ مايو 2024، وهي العاصمة الوحيدة في منطقة دارفور المترامية التي ما زالت تحت سيطرة الجيش.
ويعاني نحو 40% من الأطفال دون الخامسة من سوء تغذية حاد، من بينهم 11% مصابون بنقص شديد في التغذية، بحسب برنامج الأغذية العالمي.

The Director of Operations at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Wosornu, described the situation in the city of El Fasher as "tragic," emphasizing the need for a sufficient ceasefire to assist UN teams in addressing the conditions in the besieged capital of North Darfur state.
She warned that the humanitarian situation in the capital, Khartoum, has become catastrophic, and that the city has turned into a ghost town due to the war.
Edem Wosornu stated that the city of El Fasher is completely besieged, and that the United Nations is waiting for the Rapid Support Forces' approval to deliver humanitarian aid to the trapped population. She added that the organization has received guarantees from the Sudanese army, but is still awaiting a similar response from the Rapid Support Forces.
The United Nations had warned several days ago that children in Khartoum who are starving have become "skin and bones," and that thousands of families caught in the throes of war may die from hunger in the besieged city of El Fasher in western Sudan.
The war in Sudan, which erupted in mid-April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions.
Malnutrition is worsening in Khartoum state, and many children are now nothing but skin and bones, according to Sheldon Yett, the UNICEF representative in Sudan, which is currently experiencing the "worst humanitarian crisis" in the world, as described by the United Nations, where about 25 million people are suffering from severe food insecurity.
