The Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, condemned today (Tuesday) in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by a Houthi cultural supervisor who killed Khaled Issa Hamidi, who suffers from severe psychological disorders. He confirmed that the Houthi supervisor, Mohammed Mahim Haisha, killed Hamidi against the backdrop of peaceful protests carried out by the victim in front of the homes of Houthi leaders after his living conditions deteriorated.
Al-Eryani stated: "This heinous crime, which shook Al-Hudaydah Governorate and Yemen, exposes the true face of the Houthi militia and confirms that they do not hesitate to shed the blood of innocents and suppress unarmed citizens, at a time when they falsely lament the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, while practicing the most horrific forms of killing, repression, starvation, and impoverishment against civilians, disregarding all religious and humanitarian values." He revealed the abduction of more than 60 residents of the Al-Maraweh district, who participated in popular protests demanding the arrest of the killer and bringing him to justice.
He pointed out that the abduction of several activists who expressed their condemnation of the crime via social media is an attempt to intimidate the community and silence every voice calling for justice and dignity. He called on the international community, the United Nations, and all local and international human rights organizations to break their silence and condemn this heinous crime, as well as all the daily violations and crimes committed by the Houthis against civilians in the areas under their control, and to pressure for the release of the abducted, support the legitimate government's efforts to restore the state, and protect the rights and freedoms of Yemenis, ensuring them a free and dignified life.
Al-Eryani had previously stated that the Houthis have turned international humanitarian aid into a primary source of funding for their war machine, warning that the continued neglect by the international community of these practices exacerbates the humanitarian disaster in Yemen and prolongs the conflict.
On another note, the Mothers of Abductees Association today called on the international community and local and international organizations to activate the file of the abducted and the forcibly disappeared and to release them urgently. They emphasized in a protest in front of the Taiz Governorate building that the file of the abducted and forcibly disappeared is one of the most painful and neglected humanitarian issues, despite the severe suffering experienced by the abducted and their families for years.
In a statement, they indicated that the number of documented civilian abductees with the association has reached 1,043, with some having been abducted for more than eight years, suffering from inhumane conditions amid the absence of a political horizon and a solution to end their plight. They noted that several abductees in the central prison in Sana'a are suffering from severe diarrhea suspected to be cholera infections, without any healthcare provided, while those held in the Central Security detention center are living in similarly difficult health conditions, without medical intervention or attention.
