The tribes of southern Syria announced their full commitment to cease all military operations, as part of the efforts being made to calm the situation and restore stability.
The tribes called in a statement today (Saturday) for the immediate release of all detainees from among the tribes, considering this step essential for building trust among all parties.
The statement emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safe return of all displaced persons to their areas without any preconditions, stressing the importance of opening channels for dialogue and coordination among the various parties to avoid the repetition of unfortunate events in the future.
Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri announced in a statement on behalf of the spiritual leadership of the Druze community that an agreement had been reached to cease fire in the governorate of Sweida.
The agreement includes the deployment of public security forces on the outskirts of the governorate and outside its borders, in a step aimed at calming the situation and maintaining security. Al-Hajri called on armed groups within Sweida to avoid any provocations or military movements, in order to preserve security and stability in the region.
A state of calm prevails in Sweida amid a commitment to the ceasefire agreement and the presence of Syrian security forces.
The Syrian presidency announced today (Saturday) a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire, just hours after the U.S. envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, stated that Israel and Syria had agreed to a ceasefire following clashes in the Druze-majority area.
It warned in its statement against any violation of the ceasefire, asserting that it would be a violation of sovereignty.
The Syrian security forces began to deploy in the governorate of Sweida to "protect civilians and stop the chaos," according to what was announced by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior today (Saturday).
It is worth mentioning that tensions escalated in southern Syria on July 13 after clashes broke out in the governorate of Sweida between Bedouin tribes and Druze militants.
The Syrian security forces entered the city of Sweida on July 15 with the aim of stabilizing the situation, but shortly thereafter, Israel began targeting Syrian military vehicles heading to the governorate and bombed several strategic sites in the Syrian capital on July 16. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on the evening of July 16 the withdrawal of all military forces from the city of Sweida, according to the ceasefire agreement that was reached despite the ongoing clashes between the Bedouins and Druze factions.
