The security forces in Lahij Governorate thwarted today (Saturday) the smuggling of several gas trailers to areas under Houthi control. According to a security source, the security forces seized the gas trucks in the Al-Military area in Yafa, adjacent to Houthi-controlled areas in Al-Bayda Governorate.
The source indicated that based on the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council member Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a security committee headed to the "Military" area north of Lahij Governorate to verify the presence of gas trailers that were attempting to pass through the Yafa checkpoint adjacent to Houthi-controlled areas. It was noted that during the investigation, three unidentified gas trailers were seized, and their drivers had no permits or invoices, indicating an intention to smuggle them illegally to areas under Houthi control for sale in the black market.
He pointed out that the violating trailers were stopped and returned to the temporary capital, Aden, which is suffering from a severe gas crisis. The drivers involved in the smuggling were referred to the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal actions, urging the Yemeni Gas Company and the Safer Company in Marib to establish a specific route for gas trailers and other petroleum derivatives to limit smuggling operations and ensure their delivery to the targeted governorates and areas.
The source described this development as significant, indicating that the smuggling of vital resources to the Houthis is behind the severe crisis experienced in the liberated areas and the destruction of the national economy. He pointed out that such operations and the black market are exacerbating the suffering of the residents and fueling the Houthi war economy.
On another note, the Houthis announced today their intention to launch a new coin tomorrow (Sunday) with a denomination of 50 riyals, which was previously paper currency, following a year after the launch of a 100 riyal coin, claiming that this addresses the problem of damaged banknotes in their controlled areas.
