While the political deadlock in Libya continues, despite international and regional efforts to find a consensus solution to the intractable crisis, armed convoys arrived in the capital, Tripoli, today (Friday), coming from the cities of Zintan and Misrata, indicating the potential for an outbreak of conflict following the increasing tensions between rival armed militias over the past weeks.

Videos circulating revealed intense military movements from the city of Zintan towards the capital, including armored convoys and tanks equipped with heavy weapons. A large number of military vehicles were also seen coming from the city of Misrata towards Tripoli.

According to informed sources, these reinforcements aim to support the militias loyal to the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, in the anticipated attack on the Deterrence and Counter-Terrorism Agency, in a scene that confirms the weakness of recent security understandings.

Dbeibeh has threatened the militias operating outside the law with intervention to assert state authority over airports, ports, and prisons, which some have considered a declaration of war on the Deterrence and Counter-Terrorism Agency that controls the "Maitiga Complex," where the airport, airbase, and military hospital are located, and where the "Maitiga Rehabilitation and Reform Institution" prison is situated.

The military movements and armed presence in the streets of Tripoli and its surroundings have raised fears among the international community and residents that this mobilization may be a prelude to a clash between the parties vying for influence within Tripoli.

It is worth noting that the Libyan capital is experiencing heightened security tensions following armed confrontations that ended with the militias loyal to Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh taking control of areas previously held by the Stability Support Agency after the elimination of its leader, Abdul Ghani al-Kikli.

The United Nations and European Union missions to Libya have warned of an explosion of security conditions in the capital, Tripoli, and the undermining of the ceasefire process between the armed militias.
