نواف سلام: لا استقرار في لبنان طالما استمرت انتهاكات إسرائيل

The Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, emphasized today that stability in Lebanon cannot be achieved as long as Israel continues its violations and occupation of parts of its territory.

During a meeting at his headquarters in the capital, Beirut, today (Wednesday), he stated: "From this standpoint, we are intensifying political and diplomatic pressures to implement Resolution 1701, and we are providing everything necessary to ensure the dignified return of our people and to rebuild what the Israeli aggression has destroyed."

Salam confirmed that the Lebanese state continues its efforts to assert its full authority over all its territories with its own forces, aiming to confine weapons to its hands alone. He stressed that his government has strengthened control over Rafic Hariri International Airport and the road leading to it through strict administrative and security measures to limit smuggling and enhance public safety.

He reported that the government has launched direct cooperation with the Syrian side to control the borders, combat smuggling, and secure the safe and dignified return of the displaced.

For his part, a Lebanese official revealed that the proposal presented by the American envoy, Tom Barak, to Beirut last June revolves around three main points, the first of which is to confine weapons to the Lebanese state. The official announced that the American proposal consists of five pages and does not include a timeline for its implementation.

He stated that "the first point is the withdrawal of weapons and confining them to the Lebanese state, the second is to achieve financial and economic reforms, control the borders, prevent smuggling, increase customs revenue, and tighten procedures at crossings and public facilities."

The third point includes: reforming the relationship with Syria at various security and political levels, controlling the borders, leading to border demarcation and enhancing trade and economic relations.

He emphasized that Lebanon is committed to confining weapons to the state, but it will demand an immediate cessation of Israeli assaults and the necessity of its withdrawal and the initiation of the reconstruction process for the south of the country.

According to the official, "there is no information yet regarding Hezbollah's position on whether it agrees to confine weapons to the state, which we are awaiting in the coming days," revealing that the American envoy will visit Lebanon next week.
