In response to the confirmation by Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Naeem Qassem, that the party is not neutral in the ongoing war between Israel and Iran, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned the party, urging it to "learn the lesson."
Katz called on the Lebanese party in a post on his account on "X" today (Friday) to be cautious and realize that Israel's patience has run out regarding those who threaten it. He considered that the Secretary-General of Hezbollah has not learned a lesson from his predecessors and threatened to take action against Israel. He affirmed that any action would mean the complete destruction of Hezbollah.
The Secretary-General of Hezbollah stated yesterday (Thursday) in a statement that the party "is not neutral and will act as it sees fit in response to this brutal Israeli aggression."
The American ambassador to Turkey and special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, warned from Beirut that Hezbollah's intervention in the Iranian-Israeli war would be "a very bad decision."
In response to a question about the possibility of the party's intervention in the war, Barak told reporters after meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri: "I can speak on behalf of President Donald Trump, who was very clear, and special envoy Steve Wittekov that this would be a very, very, very bad decision."
For its part, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced that it is "following up on its communications to spare Lebanon any negative repercussions from this aggression."
Despite the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on November 27 between Israel and Hezbollah, the occupying army continues to carry out airstrikes on several Lebanese areas, including the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The ceasefire agreement stipulated the withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters from the area south of the Litani River (about 30 km from the border) and the dismantling of its military structures there, in exchange for strengthening the Lebanese army and UNIFIL's deployment near the border with Israel, and for the latter to withdraw its forces from the territories it had invaded during the conflict. However, the Israeli side refused to withdraw from five heights where it remains stationed inside Lebanese territory.
