An Israeli official announced that the "Chief of Staff" of the Houthi group was killed or injured in a raid on Sana'a last night (Saturday).
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on an assassination attempt on a high-ranking figure affiliated with the Houthi group in Yemen, stating that Israeli forces carried out an airstrike in Yemen targeting a Houthi militia official, and the results are being assessed. A senior Israeli official confirmed that the operation targeted the Chief of Staff of the Houthi forces, Mohammed al-Ghamari, according to what was reported by the American news site "Axios."
However, the Houthi group has neither confirmed nor denied al-Ghamari's death, and instead announced the launch of several rockets at Israel. They confirmed in a statement the execution of a military operation targeting sensitive Israeli sites in the Jaffa area.
The statement clarified that a number of hypersonic ballistic missiles of the "Palestine 2" type were used at varying times over the past 24 hours.
Al-Ghamari is considered one of the prominent military leaders of the Houthis, and many view him as the actual and field commander of the Houthis, and the right-hand man of militia leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi on a military level.
Since 2016, al-Ghamari has been tasked with heading the General Staff of the Houthi forces and was granted a military rank of "Major General."
Al-Ghamari is regarded as a key military figure within the Houthi ranks, and his name emerged during the events in Saada Governorate in 2013 and the fall of the capital Sana'a in September 2014, where he was one of the participants in these events. He was trained by Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
He is considered one of those responsible for launching drones and missiles towards neighboring countries of Yemen, which led the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to place him on the list of wanted Houthis in November 2017.
