كشف قائد القيادة المركزية للولايات المتحدة الجنرال مايكل كوريلا، أن القيادة أعدّت خططاً وخيارات للرئيس دونالد ترمب ووزير الدفاع بيت هيغسيث، في حال عدم التوصل إلى اتفاق مع إيران.
وقال أمام لجنة القوات المسلحة في مجلس النواب، اليوم الثلاثاء: إن اللجوء لحل عسكري مع إيران ممكن، لافتاً إلى أنه زوّد الرئيس ترمب ووزير الدفاع بخيارات واسعة. واعتبر أن وكلاء إيران في أضعف حالاتهم، لكن التحدي الأكبر يتمثل في الحوثيين. ولفت إلى أن إيران واصلت زيادة مخزونها من اليورانيوم المخصب بنسبة 60% ما يهدد بعواقب كارثية.
وأوضح قائد القيادة الوسطى الأمريكية أن الولايات المتحدة تقف أمام فرصة استراتيجية لمنع إيران من الحصول على سلاح نووي.
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قال لقناة «فوكس نيوز» إن إيران أصبحت «أكثر عدوانية» في المحادثات النووية. فيما أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الإيرانية أن جولة جديدة من المحادثات مع الولايات المتحدة مقررة (الأحد).
وكان البلدان أجريا 5 جولات تفاوض بوساطة عمانية منذ 12 أبريل سعياً إلى إيجاد بديل من الاتفاق الدولي المبرم مع إيران في العام 2015 لكبح برنامجها النووي في مقابل تخفيف العقوبات المفروضة عليها. إلا أن المفاوضات تعثرت عند مسألة تخصيب اليورانيوم، ففي حين أصرت طهران على أن من حقها تخصيب اليورانيوم بموجب معاهدة الحد من انتشار الأسلحة النووية، اعتبرت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي أن تخصيب إيران لليورانيوم «خط أحمر».

He stated before the House Armed Services Committee today, Tuesday, that resorting to a military solution with Iran is possible, noting that he has provided President Trump and the Defense Secretary with a wide range of options. He considered that Iran's proxies are at their weakest, but the biggest challenge lies with the Houthis. He pointed out that Iran has continued to increase its stockpile of enriched uranium by 60%, which threatens catastrophic consequences.

However, the negotiations stumbled over the issue of uranium enrichment, as Tehran insisted that it has the right to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, while the Trump administration considered Iran's enrichment of uranium a "red line."
