Hegseth announced support for peaceful protests, emphasizing that there would be zero tolerance for attacking federal forces.

Yesterday, Defense Secretary Hegseth hinted that the Department of Defense (the Pentagon) is ready to announce the mobilization of Marines if the violence in Los Angeles continues.

He stated via the platform "X": The Department of Defense is immediately mobilizing the National Guard to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles... If the violence continues, Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized... They are on standby.

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard members on Saturday to confront the escalating protests against law enforcement raids to arrest undocumented migrants in the Los Angeles area, a move that California's governor described as "provocative."

Federal police clashed with angry crowds in a Los Angeles suburb as protests continued for a second night, deploying sound bombs and closing part of a highway amid raids on undocumented migrants.

Fox 11 reported that the confrontations occurred in the Paramount suburb after protesters gathered near a large home goods store frequented by workers providing their daily services and used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as a gathering point.

According to posts on social media, federal police wearing gas masks deployed sound bombs and tear gas on the protesters.

Trump signed a memorandum to deploy 2,000 National Guard members to deal with the chaos that has been allowed to escalate, according to a statement from White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt.

The spokesperson confirmed that the Trump administration has a zero-tolerance policy towards criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence targets law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs.

The Governor of California expressed his opposition to this move. He wrote on the platform "X": "This step is deliberately provocative and will only escalate tensions," adding, "We are in close coordination with the city and the county, and there are currently no unmet needs."

The protests erupted a day after masked agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted raids at workplaces in various parts of Los Angeles, angering many who protested and clashed with police for hours.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged that some city residents "feel scared" after the actions of federal immigration agents.

She said on the platform "X": "Everyone has the right to peaceful protest, but let me be clear: violence and destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable."

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced several arrests following the clashes. He wrote on the platform "X": You bring chaos, we bring the handcuffs... Law and order will prevail.
