According to what the Reuters agency reported from four diplomats, it is likely that the European troika countries—Britain, France, and Germany—will start the process of re-imposing UN sanctions on Iran tomorrow (Thursday), but they hope that Tehran will present commitments regarding its nuclear program within 30 days that would convince them to postpone taking concrete action.

The three countries met with Iran yesterday in an effort to revive diplomatic efforts regarding the nuclear program before they lose the ability to re-impose sanctions on Tehran in mid-October, which were lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement with global powers.

Western diplomats told the agency that yesterday's talks did not yield sufficient concrete commitments from Iran, although they believe there is room for more diplomacy in the coming weeks, indicating that the group of the three European countries decided to begin activating what is called the "snapback mechanism" or "the rapid return of UN sanctions," possibly starting tomorrow, due to accusations that Iran is violating the 2015 agreement with global powers aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
