أُصيب ما لا يقل عن 30 شخصاً، بينهم 7 في حالة حرجة، إثر قيام رجل بصدم حشد من المارة بسيارته عمداً خارج نادٍ ليلي في حي إيست هوليوود بمدينة لوس أنجلوس، وفق ما أعلنته السلطات المحلية.
وقالت شرطة لوس أنجلوس إن المشتبه به، ويدعى فرناندو راميريز (29 عاما)، كان قد طُرد في وقت سابق من الليلة ذاتها من النادي الموسيقي «فيرمونت هوليوود» بسبب سلوكه العدائي، قبل أن يعود ويقود سيارته بسرعة نحو الرصيف ويصطدم بعربة لبيع الطعام، ثم بالحشد المتجمع أمام المكان.
وأوضحت المتحدثة باسم الشرطة روزاريو سيرفانتس أن راميريز يواجه تهمة الاعتداء بسلاح مميت، وأن التحقيقات لا تزال جارية لتحديد ملابسات الحادثة والدوافع الكاملة خلفها.
ووفقاً لمسؤولي إدارة الإطفاء، نُقل 23 مصاباً إلى المستشفيات المحلية، بينما عالجت الفرق الطبية آخرين في موقع الحادثة، التي وقعت في تقاطع شارعي نورث فيرمونت وسانتا مونيكا نحو الساعة الثانية صباحاً.
وأظهرت لقطات فيديو، تم تداولها عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، لحظة قيام عدد من الأشخاص بسحب السائق من سيارته والاعتداء عليه بالضرب. وأفادت الشرطة بأنه أُصيب لاحقاً بطلق ناري في الأرداف خلال الاشتباك، ويخضع حالياً لعملية جراحية، فيما لا تزال حالته الصحية غير واضحة. وتواصل الشرطة التحقيق في هوية مطلق النار، الذي لاذ بالفرار من المكان، وسط دعوات من السلطات للشهود بتقديم أي معلومات قد تسهم في تعقبه.
وفي تعليق على الحادثة، وصفت عمدة لوس أنجلوس كارين باس ما جرى بأنه «مأساة مفجعة»، مؤكدة في منشور على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي أن «قلوب جميع سكان لوس أنجلوس مع الضحايا والمتضررين في هذا الصباح الحزين». بينما أعربت المديرة العامة لنادي «فيرمونت هوليوود» ساندرا سافيس عن شكرها للاستجابة السريعة من فرق الشرطة والإطفاء، مؤكدة التعاون الكامل مع السلطات لضمان «محاسبة المسؤول عن هذا العمل المروع».
ويأتي هذا الهجوم في وقت تمر فيه مدينة لوس أنجلوس بسنة متوترة، شهدت اندلاع حرائق غابات في بداية العام، إضافة إلى توترات سياسية واحتجاجات مرتبطة بقضايا الهجرة، فضلاً عن انفجار قاتل في مركز تدريب أمني قُتل فيه 3 نواب قبل يوم واحد فقط من حادثة الدهس.
At least 30 people were injured, including 7 in critical condition, after a man deliberately drove his car into a crowd of pedestrians outside a nightclub in the East Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, local authorities announced.
The Los Angeles Police said the suspect, identified as Fernando Ramirez (29 years old), had been kicked out earlier that same night from the music club "Fermont Hollywood" due to his aggressive behavior, before returning and speeding his car onto the sidewalk, crashing into a food truck, and then into the crowd gathered in front of the venue.
Police spokesperson Rosario Cervantes explained that Ramirez faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and that investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident and the full motives behind it.
According to fire department officials, 23 injured individuals were transported to local hospitals, while medical teams treated others at the scene of the incident, which occurred at the intersection of North Vermont and Santa Monica around 2 AM.
Video footage, circulated on social media, showed the moment several people pulled the driver from his car and assaulted him. Police reported that he was later shot in the buttocks during the altercation and is currently undergoing surgery, with his health status still unclear. The police continue to investigate the identity of the shooter, who fled the scene, amid calls from authorities for witnesses to provide any information that could help track him down.
In a comment on the incident, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described what happened as a "tragic tragedy," affirming in a social media post that "the hearts of all Los Angeles residents are with the victims and those affected on this sad morning." Meanwhile, the general manager of "Fermont Hollywood" Sandra Savis expressed her gratitude for the swift response from police and fire teams, confirming full cooperation with authorities to ensure "accountability for the perpetrator of this horrific act."
This attack comes at a time when the city of Los Angeles is experiencing a tense year, having witnessed wildfires at the beginning of the year, along with political tensions and protests related to immigration issues, as well as a deadly explosion at a security training center that killed 3 deputies just one day before the vehicular incident.
