The General Conference of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO) - in its extraordinary eighth session, held today in Tunisia under the presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - condemned the brutal and ongoing Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip and against the Palestinian people, as well as its continued aggressive approach in the Middle East and its aggression against the State of Qatar. It announced its solidarity with the State of Qatar and called on the United Nations and international organizations to take action to stop these practices and put an end to the genocide being perpetrated by Israel in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

During its extraordinary session, the General Conference decided to reopen the nomination process for the position of Assistant Director-General of ALECSO, with nominations to be presented at the next General Conference session. Meanwhile, the Executive Council of ALECSO, during its 15th special session, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, approved the appointment of two positions in the second category at the level of Senior Director: the Director of the Arab Manuscripts Institute in Cairo and the Director of the International Institute for the Arabic Language in Khartoum.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Tunisia, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Saqr, the Minister of Culture, Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, and President of the General Conference of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, expressed his greetings and appreciation for the efforts of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science, and for what the Arab countries collectively do under the umbrella of the organization in playing a pioneering role in serving our Arab communities in the fields of education, culture, and science, and unifying efforts to enhance Arab identity and protect its rich heritage.

He affirmed that the Kingdom's presidency of the General Conference values the efforts made by the member Arab countries in support of joint Arab action, keeping pace with global transformations, and developing policies and programs that contribute to building an Arab individual capable of creativity and competition. He pointed out the Kingdom's support for the decisions and recommendations made at this conference, which contain constructive directions that enhance cooperation and integration among brotherly countries.

At the end of his speech, the Minister of Culture, President of the General Conference of ALECSO, expressed his hope that the organization would continue its vital role in valuing and developing initiatives and projects that serve the future of the Arab nation, and that everyone's efforts would increase in expanding areas of cooperation among member states in line with common Arab aspirations. He renewed his thanks and appreciation to those in charge of the conference, wishing success and prosperity for its work and for the organization to continue its progress and prosperity.

For his part, the representative of the Kingdom and President of the Executive Council of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO), Hani bin Muqbil Al-Muqbil, during the Executive Council meeting in its 15th special session on September 12, 2025, affirmed full and steadfast support for the humanitarian and brotherly stance in support of the affected Gaza Strip in Palestine. The Executive Council rejected the continuation of aggression, occupation, and forced displacement of Gaza's residents, as well as the brutal Israeli assaults and blatant violations of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar, affirming the Executive Council's full solidarity and support for the State of Qatar.

He pointed to the interest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in ALECSO and their unlimited support for it. He conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the President of the General Conference of ALECSO, the Minister of Culture, and Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, who provides endless support for the organization and offers all means to enhance its work.

He stated that the Executive Council meeting in its 15th special session, which witnesses the nomination of several Arab countries for their nationals to occupy leadership positions in the organization, is renewed in the Arab space and provides an opportunity to raise the level of collective Arab interest in education, culture, and science issues, as the member states of the council bear the responsibility of supporting the growth path and raising the level of development.

He considered the success of the work in the Executive Council to be contingent upon using new tools, influencing Arab societies, and clearly defining targets, noting that the council seeks to play a pivotal role in shaping the future, working diligently, and launching qualitative initiatives that will remain beneficial and supportive for decades to come, through innovating and preparing opportunities to achieve goals and objectives without limiting its role to interacting with changes, but rather in work models that stem from the vision of member states and meet the needs of the organization in the future.

For his part, the Director-General of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO), Dr. Mohammed Al-Amar, stated that the steadfast Palestinian people are going through harsh and extraordinary conditions due to the genocide they have been subjected to since October 2023, from the grip of oppressive colonialism. He called on the United Nations and international organizations that advocate for freedoms and human rights to actively engage in stopping the genocide of an unarmed people defending their freedom and their eternal land, with Jerusalem as its capital.

He pointed out that the nomination of Arab countries for these leadership positions in the organization aims to benefit from the abundant and proud Arab competencies, indicating that the General Administration is working on the administrative and legal procedures for these nominations to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization and the Arab nations and their generations.
