بحضور رئيس المالديف.. الصندوق السعودي للتنمية يشارك في افتتاح مطار فيلانا الدولي

With the presence of the President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muiz, the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the development project for Velana International Airport in the Maldives. This project aims to support infrastructure and enhance growth in the aviation sector in the Maldives by creating modern buildings for international and domestic travel terminals, along with a comprehensive maritime terminal. This will increase the airport's capacity to accommodate (7) million passengers annually, with future readiness for expansion to welcome (15) million passengers per year. The project also contributes to facilitating passenger movement and improving the efficiency of air cargo services and logistics, positively impacting commercial activity and driving economic development in the country.

The Saudi Fund for Development is contributing to its financing through concessional development loans amounting to $217 million, as part of the close developmental relations that have extended for more than 47 years between the two sides.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani. It is worth noting that the Saudi Fund for Development has implemented since 1978, (17) development projects in the Maldives through concessional development loans amounting to (488) million dollars, covering the sectors of social and infrastructure, transport, and communications, to support social growth and enhance economic prosperity in the Maldives.
