تشارك المملكة العربية السعودية دول العالم في الاحتفاء باليوم العالمي لمكافحة العواصف الرملية والترابية، الذي يصادف 12 يوليو من كل عام، والذي يقام هذا العام تحت شعار «العمل عبر أجندات من أجل المرونة والاستدامة»، وذلك في إطار التزام المملكة بدعم الجهود الدولية لحماية البيئة، وتعزيز منظومات الإنذار المبكر، والتعاون العلمي للحد من تأثيرات هذه الظواهر على الإنسان والبيئة.
وتعد المملكة من أوائل الدول التي تبنت مبادرات نوعية في هذا المجال، وأسست المركز الإقليمي للعواصف الغبارية والرملية بمدينة جدة 2022م، أحد مخرجات قمة الشرق الأوسط الأخضر، ليكون مرجعاً علمياً وتقنياً معتمداً من المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية، ويخدم منطقة الخليج والشرق الأوسط ضمن نظام الإنذار والاستشارات العالمي SDS-WAS.
وأكد المدير التنفيذي للمركز الإقليمي للعواصف الغبارية والرملية جمعان سعد القحطاني، أن مشاركة المملكة في هذا اليوم تجسد التزامها البيئي والمناخي، وترجمة دورها المحوري في دعم الأبحاث ونقل المعرفة وبناء القدرات، مشيراً إلى أن المركز الإقليمي يعمل على تطوير تقنيات التنبؤ، وتبادل البيانات، وتحسين جاهزية الدول لمواجهة الظواهر الغبارية، عبر برامج تدريبية ومؤتمرات علمية وشراكات إقليمية ودولية.
وأوضح أن إطلاق المملكة مبادرتها الدولية لتعزيز أنظمة الإنذار المبكر بالعواصف الرملية والغبارية، ودعمها السخي بمبلغ 10 ملايين دولار على مدى خمس سنوات، يؤكّد حرصها على توفير حلول علمية وتقنية متقدمة، ومساعدة الدول المتأثرة على تعزيز قدراتها لمواجهة الظواهر المتطرفة.
وأشار القحطاني إلى أن المركز الإقليمي يُعد ركيزة أساسية ضمن منظومة المبادرات الوطنية، إلى جانب برامج ومراكز بيئية رائدة مثل مبادرة السعودية الخضراء، وبرنامج استمطار السحب، والمركز الوطني لتنمية الغطاء النباتي، ومركز التغير المناخي، مؤكداً أن المملكة ماضية في التوسع بهذه المبادرات لتقليل المخاطر البيئية، وتحقيق مستهدفات رؤية السعودية 2030 في التنمية والاستدامة.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shares with the world in celebrating the International Day to Combat Sand and Dust Storms, which falls on July 12 each year, and this year is held under the slogan "Working through Agendas for Resilience and Sustainability." This is part of the Kingdom's commitment to supporting international efforts to protect the environment, enhance early warning systems, and promote scientific cooperation to mitigate the impacts of these phenomena on humans and the environment.
The Kingdom is one of the first countries to adopt qualitative initiatives in this field and established the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms in Jeddah in 2022, one of the outcomes of the Middle East Green Summit, to serve as a scientific and technical reference accredited by the World Meteorological Organization, serving the Gulf and Middle East region within the global warning and advisory system SDS-WAS.
Jamaan Saad Al-Qahtani, the Executive Director of the Regional Center for Dust and Sand Storms, confirmed that the Kingdom's participation in this day embodies its environmental and climate commitment and translates its pivotal role in supporting research, knowledge transfer, and capacity building. He pointed out that the regional center works on developing forecasting technologies, data exchange, and improving the readiness of countries to face dust phenomena through training programs, scientific conferences, and regional and international partnerships.
He explained that the Kingdom's launch of its international initiative to enhance early warning systems for sand and dust storms, along with its generous support of $10 million over five years, confirms its keenness to provide advanced scientific and technical solutions and to assist affected countries in strengthening their capacities to confront extreme phenomena.
Al-Qahtani noted that the regional center is a fundamental pillar within the system of national initiatives, alongside pioneering environmental programs and centers such as the Saudi Green Initiative, the Cloud Seeding Program, the National Center for Vegetation Development, and the Climate Change Center, affirming that the Kingdom is moving forward in expanding these initiatives to reduce environmental risks and achieve the targets of Saudi Vision 2030 in development and sustainability.
