كشف المركز الإقليمي للعواصف الغبارية والرملية أبرز مناطق ومصادر تكوُّن الغبار في المملكة، وذلك بالتزامن مع اليوم العالمي لمكافحة العواصف الرملية والترابية، الذي يحتفي به المجتمع الدولي في 12 يوليو من كل عام، تضمنت: الجافورة، ونفود الثويرات، وهضبة حسمى، والمنطقة الغربية للربع الخالي، والجزء الجنوبي الغربي لحافة طويق، والسواحل الجنوبية للبحر الأحمر.
ويعد المركز ركيزة أساسية ضمن منظومة المبادرات الوطنية، ومرجعًا علميًا وتقنيًا معتمدًا من المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية، ويخدم منطقة الخليج والشرق الأوسط، ضمن نظام الإنذار والاستشارات العالمي SDS-WAS، بصفته أحد مخرجات قمة الشرق الأوسط الأخضر.
وأوضح المدير التنفيذي للمركز الإقليمي للعواصف الغبارية والرملية جمعان بن سعد القحطاني، أن مشاركة المملكة في هذا اليوم يعكس التزامها البيئي والمناخي، وترجمة دورها المحوري في دعم الأبحاث ونقل المعرفة وبناء القدرات، إذ يعمل المركز على تطوير تقنيات التنبؤ، وتبادل البيانات، وتحسين جاهزية الدول لمواجهة الظواهر الغبارية، عبر برامج تدريبية ومؤتمرات علمية وشراكات إقليمية ودولية.
ونوه بأن إطلاق المملكة لمبادرتها الدولية لتعزيز أنظمة الإنذار المبكر بالعواصف الرملية والغبارية، ودعمها بمبلغ 10 ملايين دولار على مدى خمس سنوات، يؤكد حرصها على توفير حلول علمية وتقنية متقدمة، ومساعدة الدول المتأثرة على تعزيز قدراتها لمواجهة الظواهر المتطرفة.
The Regional Center for Dust and Sandstorms has revealed the main areas and sources of dust formation in the Kingdom, coinciding with the International Day for Combating Sand and Dust Storms, celebrated by the international community on July 12 each year. These areas include: Al-Jafurah, Nafud Al-Thuwairat, the Hasma Plateau, the western region of the Empty Quarter, the southwestern part of the Tuwaiq Escarpment, and the southern coasts of the Red Sea.
The center is a fundamental pillar within the framework of national initiatives and is an accredited scientific and technical reference from the World Meteorological Organization. It serves the Gulf and Middle East region as part of the global warning and advisory system SDS-WAS, being one of the outcomes of the Middle East Green Summit.
The Executive Director of the Regional Center for Dust and Sandstorms, Jumaan bin Saad Al-Qahtani, stated that the Kingdom's participation in this day reflects its environmental and climatic commitment, translating its pivotal role in supporting research, knowledge transfer, and capacity building. The center works on developing forecasting technologies, data exchange, and improving the readiness of countries to face dust phenomena through training programs, scientific conferences, and regional and international partnerships.
He noted that the Kingdom's launch of its international initiative to enhance early warning systems for sand and dust storms, supported by a funding of $10 million over five years, confirms its keenness to provide advanced scientific and technical solutions and to assist affected countries in strengthening their capabilities to confront extreme phenomena.
