Duke University, a globally leading American institution, hosted a lecture by the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, on Islamic civilization and its journey in sciences and literature. The lecture by Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa included a documented overview of Islamic civilization and its various aspects in politics, administration, and society with all its components and needs, addressing several issues raised in some global writings and reports from think tanks and research centers in the "East" and "West," particularly its intellectual debates in legislation, rights, philosophy, and arts.
The lecture significantly contributed to correcting some misconceptions about certain issues, as Al-Issa elaborated in detail on general features related to environmental issues, climate change, family, women, children, and youth, highlighting the commonalities among them all, affirming with examples that they are diverse.
Following that, a dialogue session was held with the Secretary-General of the League, during which he received a number of questions and inquiries regarding the topic of the lecture, in addition to other issues of interest to the attendees. This was followed by a discussion session in which several academic and youth leaders from the university participated, commenting on what was observed in the details of the lecture, and confirming that it represents an important and qualitative research area in its content, deserving of wide exchange from the perspective of an Islamic reference viewpoint, which enjoys documentation, transparency, and international respect.
The lecture was attended by several academic leaders at Duke University, led by the Vice President, deans of some colleges, and a number of students. It was also attended by some members of the state senate and the Islamic community, some of whom expressed their happiness in statements following the lecture regarding the invitation of His Eminence to this lecture, which they described as significant in its title, themes, and presentation, as well as the discussion session surrounding its content, praising its treatment of several misconceptions through the content and style that can address these global academic platforms.
In the same context, Al-Issa conducted an interview with the third cohort of youth participating in the "Youth Fellowship for Interfaith Dialogue on Climate," which is the first global fellowship of its kind focusing on climate, bringing together young leaders from various faiths. Duke University oversees its educational and training program, granting accredited certificates upon meeting the program's standards, as part of the partnership between the "Islamic Cultural Foundation in Geneva" and "Divinity School at Duke University," and is supported by a select group of religious leaders to mobilize efforts and foster mutual interaction among all followers of religions on environmental protection issues. On another note, the Secretary-General of the League met with the President of Duke University, Dr. Vincent Price. Vincent welcomed Al-Issa's visit to the university, appreciating his acceptance of the university's invitation to host the lecture and hold meetings and dialogues with its members, and what His Eminence provided in terms of readings, notes, and clarifications that are of utmost importance regarding several pressing contemporary issues. During the meeting, the prospects for enhancing the existing partnership between the Muslim World League and Duke University were discussed.
Subsequently, Al-Issa witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to expand the partnership between the "Islamic Cultural Foundation in Geneva" and "Divinity School at Duke University," aimed at enhancing areas of cooperation and work between the two esteemed institutions in areas of mutual interest, and activating the role of religious and academic leaders to address pressing issues in their communities, including enhancing partnership in environmental protection and climate change.
