In a moment where feelings of pride blend with gratitude, colleague Ali Maki celebrates this week the graduation of his son Turki from high school at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), after an educational journey that spanned 15 years, beginning with the establishment of the university and the family's move to its location in Thuwal in 2009.
Maki says: “When I moved from Jizan to Jeddah first at the beginning of the establishment of #KAUST and then to Thuwal, as I was one of the founders of the university, Turki was a child when he joined KG1. Today he stands as a young man on the graduation stage, bearing the marks of a long journey of learning and development, and loyalty to this dream that grew with us and matured with us all at once.”
And because a picture is worth a thousand words, KAUST schools published an impactful photo in the yearbook of the graduating class, showing Turki through different stages of his life, from his early childhood to the moment he wore his graduation robe. The photo encapsulates in its snapshots the story of a young man who grew up in an inspiring educational environment filled with diversity and opportunities.
Turki is distinguished by his passion, cheerful spirit, and ambition, which he expressed by wanting to be in the future “a professional fisherman, owner of a marine project, and king of the sea,” as he said in his graduation card. His childhood dream was “to glide like a bat” — just like Batman.
His father adds: “Turki did not just graduate from school, but from a comprehensive life system that made him a conscious, global young man, rooted in his values.”
Today, Turki is not just a graduate; he is a living testament to what an educational environment that believes in potential, and a community founded on ambition, can create, having grown up with a dream.
