A specialized medical team in the medical services of the Ministry of Interior successfully performed a unique surgical operation on a patient suffering from severe friction in the lumbar vertebrae, using minimally invasive surgical intervention techniques with the assistance of the robotic surgical system "ExcelsiusGPS." This marks the first operation of its kind in the Kingdom, as part of the advanced therapeutic services at Prince Naif Center for Medical Excellence and Innovation.
The technologies that integrate advanced surgical navigation with the robotic arm contributed to the patient regaining the ability to move and walk within the first hour of the operation, while minimizing the impact on the surrounding tissues.
The "ExcelsiusGPS" system relies on integrating advanced surgical navigation with the robotic arm, allowing the surgeon to plan precisely and direct surgical instruments during the operation.
This achievement is part of the initial accomplishments of the Prince Naif Center for Medical Excellence and Innovation, which is affiliated with the Medical Cities Operation Program under the Ministry of Interior, through the development of spinal surgery services, employing advanced medical technologies, and leveraging national competencies and global expertise to enhance surgical practices and transfer knowledge, contributing to the improvement of the quality of specialized care provided to beneficiaries.
The success of the operation represents a step forward in developing advanced therapeutic models within centers of excellence and supporting the operational readiness of medical cities by providing specialized care that combines medical expertise and modern technologies, prioritizing the quality of life of the beneficiary and the speed of their recovery.
