On Saudi National Day, the Kingdom recalls the story of a homeland that began to take shape under the founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman (may God have mercy on him), and was solidified over decades of construction and development, until today the Kingdom is moving towards a more ambitious future under Vision 2030, relying on its historical legacy and national identity, and investing in people as the axis and goal of development.
Pride in the Past and Present
Dr. Latifa Mutlaq Al-Adwani, head of the Taif History Center and head of the Social Sciences Department at the College of Arts at Taif University, affirmed that National Day embodies the pride of Saudis in their past, and evokes the journey of unification and construction that began with King Abdulaziz, leading to the stage of building the future. She said: On the 23rd of September, every year, memory recalls a day when the features of a new homeland were born, a day that was not just an announcement of a country’s name, but a culmination of a long journey in which the inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula transitioned from division to unity, from anxiety to security, and from the narrowness of geography to the vastness of the homeland. Nearly a century ago, King Abdulaziz carried a project that went beyond the restoration of cities and towns; he was establishing a homeland where land, people, and identity are integrated. From Riyadh, where the story began with the restoration of rule in 1902, the journey of unification extended until the royal decree was issued in 1932, announcing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Then began another important story, which is the story of construction. The unity of the homeland is not complete by unifying the land alone, but by what is built upon it in terms of security and institutions, education and health, roads and cities, and an economy that opens doors to the future for its children. Throughout the reigns of the Kingdom's kings, those initial building blocks transformed into a modern state, advancing at a rapid pace, while simultaneously preserving its memory, roots, and identity.
The Saudi... The Most Important Wealth
Al-Adwani adds: Today, the Kingdom stands at a qualitative stage, a stage that does not settle for what has been achieved, but looks to what can be accomplished. At the heart of Vision 2030, the Saudi individual emerges as the most important wealth, and ambition becomes a new language for development, while the Kingdom transforms into an open space for innovation, culture, tourism, economy, and knowledge, from its mountains to its coasts, and from its palm oases to its cities that are being shaped for the future. The Kingdom appears as a homeland with diverse terrains, while its spirit unifies. Therefore, National Day is not just a memory of the past, but a promise that renews every year and a pride that is lived with the dawn of each year, to preserve a homeland unified by the founder, the unifier, the inspirer, and the knight King Abdulaziz (may God have mercy on him), and to continue building a homeland worthy of the dreams of its children, creating a place for the future among nations.
