In homelands, there is something that maps cannot explain...
Something that resembles a mother,
We know its value before we learn the meaning of things,
And we dwell in it before we know the meaning of safety.
And Saudi Arabia... is not just a land we inhabit,
Saudi Arabia is what inhabits us.
It dwells in our names,
In the features of our fathers,
In the prayers of our mothers,
At the beginning of the road... and at its end.
It dwells in that feeling we cannot see,
But we feel it when we return to it from a long journey,
As we look from the airplane window at its land,
And something happens in the heart
That language cannot describe.
Here is a homeland that was not born fleetingly in history.
Behind every inch of it is a story,
And behind every green flag are men
Who carried the dream when the dream was harder than the road,
And walked over the rocks of fear, hunger, and fatigue,
Until they gathered the scattered,
And made a homeland from the desert,
And from division, unity,
And from the dream, a state that stands today among nations, proud.
For this...
When we raise the flag,
We are not raising a piece of cloth.
We are raising the memory of ancestors who have passed,
And the lives of men who have gone,
And the prayers of mothers who waited for their sons,
And we raise the story of a homeland that has paid much for its survival.
On our national day,
We do not just ask:
What has the homeland given us?
But we ask ourselves the difficult questions:
What will we leave for this homeland?
What kind of Saudi Arabia will our children find after us?
Will they find it as dear as we found it?
Or will they find it even dearer?
Will they read our names as we read the names of those who preceded us,
And say: These passed through here...
Leaving the homeland more beautiful than they found it?
That is the true love for the homeland.
For the homeland does not need from us a poem for a day,
As much as it needs from us a lifetime of loyalty.
To be sincere when no one sees us,
To build when building is hard,
To protect its reputation as we protect our names,
And to realize that each one of us
Carries something of Saudi Arabia wherever he goes.
Oh my homeland...
Perhaps we cannot repay you for all that you have given us,
But we can be worthy of you.
To carry your flag with clean hearts,
And working arms,
And minds that believe that glory is not just something we inherit...
Glory is a trust.
And the homeland that was made by the ancestors with men,
Is not preserved by the children with words alone,
But by work...
And loyalty...
And belonging that does not change when days change.
Saudi Arabia...
Oh homeland that began a story in the heart of the desert,
Then became a dream that touches the sky...
We will grow,
And our faces will change,
And the years will pass us by,
And some of us will depart,
And generations will come that do not know our names...
But this land will remain.
The green of the flag will remain above it,
And the word of monotheism will continue to embrace the sky,
And a Saudi child will be born after a hundred years,
Looking at this homeland with the same pride we feel today.
And then...
It will not matter that they know who we were,
It is enough for us that they live in a homeland
That we contributed to keeping great.
For great homelands are not only inhabited by their children...
But they pass through it generation after generation,
And the homeland remains.
May you endure, oh Saudi Arabia...
The land we are born on once,
And is born in us every day.
