دان الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش، والأمين العام لمجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية جاسم محمد البديوي، هجمات مليشيا الحوثي على المملكة العربية السعودية واستهدافها الأعيان المدنية، مؤكدين أن هذه الهجمات تهدّد الأمن والاستقرار في المنطقة.
جاء ذلك خلال لقائهما على هامش مشاركة الأمين العام لمجلس التعاون في اجتماعات الدورة الحادية والثمانين للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في نيويورك بالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
وبحث الجانبان خلال اللقاء عدداً من الموضوعات، أبرزها استعراض علاقات التعاون بين مجلس التعاون والأمم المتحدة، وسبل تعزيزها وتوطيدها بما يخدم المصالح المشتركة، إلى جانب تبادل وجهات النظر بشأن آخر المستجدات في المنطقة، ومناقشة عدد من الملفات الإقليمية والجهود المبذولة حيالها.
وأشاد الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة بما حققته دول مجلس التعاون من تنمية وتقدّم وازدهار، وبجهودها الإقليمية والدولية في تعزيز الأمن والاستقرار.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, condemned the attacks by the Houthi militia on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their targeting of civilian objects, emphasizing that these attacks threaten security and stability in the region.
This came during their meeting on the sidelines of the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council's participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States of America.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of topics, most notably reviewing the cooperative relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United Nations, and ways to enhance and solidify them to serve mutual interests, in addition to exchanging views on the latest developments in the region and discussing several regional files and the efforts being made regarding them.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations praised the achievements of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in terms of development, progress, and prosperity, as well as their regional and international efforts to enhance security and stability.
