The National Society for Human Rights emphasized the importance of enhancing patients' rights, involving them in decisions related to their health, and establishing effective communication between them and healthcare providers; ensuring that they receive safe and comprehensive care, and reducing avoidable risks during the treatment journey.
This came during a meeting organized by the society yesterday, titled "Patient Rights, Quality of Healthcare, and Patient Safety," on the occasion of World Patient Safety Day, which addressed the health and legal dimensions related to patient protection, and the importance of continuity of care, especially for those suffering from chronic diseases, which requires continuous monitoring and coordination among healthcare providers.
The meeting reviewed patients' rights, most notably the right to clear information about their condition and treatment options, the protection of their privacy, and participation in decisions regarding their care, alongside their responsibilities in providing health information and understanding and following the treatment plan.
The meeting stressed the importance of continuity of care when a patient transitions between doctors and healthcare facilities, ensuring that information about their condition, medications, and test results reaches the healthcare provider, which supports the accuracy of medical decisions and reduces the risks of interrupted follow-up.
