The guide for dealing with infectious cases in public education schools, issued by the Public Health Authority (Prevention) in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Health, identifies the cases that require isolation within schools.
The guide indicates that sick students and staff exhibiting symptoms should be kept separate from others, following preventive measures, until they leave the school building. The cases include fever, respiratory symptoms (cough or shortness of breath), gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain or diarrhea or vomiting), and skin rashes.
The guide clarifies that the specifications for the isolation area within the school include assessing the current space allocated for school health services, designating a space for isolation within the school to be used when necessary, and ensuring ventilation outlets such as windows and an external door to reduce infection in the isolation area. It is also preferable to have a restroom equipped with handwashing facilities, a phone for communication and monitoring the case in the isolation area from the beginning of the isolation period until all procedures are completed and isolation is ended, continuing until the individual can leave, whether to home, a health center, or a hospital.
Personal Protection
The specifications included providing personal protective equipment, including safety goggles, protective gowns, gloves, and face masks for handling the isolated case if needed, training the health guide on procedures for dealing with infectious cases in schools, procedures for measuring temperature, using personal protective equipment, establishing a model for tracking the infectious case and following up with the primary healthcare center, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces in the isolation room or area after the patient leaves, closing areas used by the patient and waiting for 24 hours or as long as possible before cleaning or disinfecting, opening doors and windows to increase air circulation in the isolation area after the patient departs, and disinfecting the room and cleaning and sanitizing all places used by the patient such as desks, restrooms, and common areas.
