أسفرت أعمال الموسم الثاني للتنقيب الأثري في موقع العصداء بمحافظة المخواة، عن مجموعة من المكتشفات البارزة، أبرزها مسجد أثري بمساحة نحو 11×12 متراً، يضم محراباً و3 مداخل رئيسة وقواعد أعمدة تشير إلى تخطيط معماري متقن يعكس أهمية المسجد في المدن الإسلامية المبكرة.
كما كشفت أعمال التنقيب 4 غرف ملحقة بالمسجد من الجهة الشمالية الشرقية، تحتوي على أحواض مائية ومستودعات ومواقد داخلية، ما يرجّح استخدامها للسكن أو للخدمات المرتبطة بالمسجد.
وشملت المكتشفات لقى أثرية متنوعة مثل أجزاء من أوانٍ فخارية عادية ومزججة، وأوانٍ حجرية من الحجر الصابوني، إضافة إلى رحى ومساحن حجرية تعكس طبيعة الحياة اليومية في الموقع.
ويُعد موقع العصداء من أهم مواقع التعدين التاريخية في جنوب غرب المملكة، كما اكتسب أهمية لوقوعه على طريق الحج اليمني المؤدي إلى مكة المكرمة، ما جعله محطة رئيسية عبر العصور.
وتأتي هذه الأعمال ضمن جهود هيئة التراث لتوسيع الدراسات الميدانية، وبناء قاعدة معرفية تُبرز غنى الجزيرة العربية بإرثها الحضاري المتنوع.
The second season of archaeological excavation at the Al-Asda site in Al-Mukhwah Governorate has resulted in a number of significant discoveries, the most notable of which is an ancient mosque measuring approximately 11×12 meters, which includes a mihrab, three main entrances, and column bases that indicate a meticulous architectural layout reflecting the importance of the mosque in early Islamic cities.
The excavation work also revealed four rooms attached to the mosque on the northeastern side, containing water basins, storage areas, and internal hearths, suggesting they were used for living or services related to the mosque.
The discoveries included a variety of archaeological finds such as fragments of ordinary and glazed pottery, stone vessels made from soapstone, as well as grinding stones and mortars that reflect the nature of daily life at the site.
The Al-Asda site is considered one of the most important historical mining sites in the southwest of the Kingdom, and it has gained significance due to its location on the Yemeni Hajj route leading to Mecca, making it a major stop throughout the ages.
This work is part of the efforts of the Heritage Authority to expand field studies and build a knowledge base that highlights the richness of the Arabian Peninsula with its diverse cultural heritage.
