Sudanese sources have revealed that the army forces have regained control over the strategic city of Kurmuk in the Blue Nile region and have completed their sweeping and securing operations, marking a new advancement for government forces in their ongoing military operations against the Rapid Support Forces.

Sources reported that army units spread throughout the city after entering it and began conducting extensive sweeping operations to secure neighborhoods and vital facilities, while continuing to pursue any pockets or armed elements in the surrounding area.

Kurmuk holds strategic importance due to its location in the Blue Nile state near the border with Ethiopia, making it a point of military and logistical significance in the ongoing operations between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

This development comes at a time when confrontations continue on several fronts within Sudan, as the army seeks to regain control over areas held by the Rapid Support Forces, while other regions are experiencing sporadic clashes and drone strikes.

The Sudan Doctors Network announced on Wednesday the death of ten civilians, including five women from the same family, after their vehicle was targeted by a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces west of Omdurman while they were heading to attend a social event. The network accused the Rapid Support Forces of deliberately targeting civilians, a claim that has not been commented on by the forces.

Since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023, the battles have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of more than 11 million people, with the United Nations describing the crisis as one of the largest displacement and hunger crises in the world, as fighting continues in several Sudanese states and the humanitarian situation worsens.
