The Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi, confirmed during his virtual participation via video call at the Asir Investment Forum that the Asir region is witnessing a qualitative leap at various levels and is considered one of the most promising areas on the investment map of the Kingdom, given its human, natural, and economic resources.
He explained during his speech at the forum, which was launched at King Khalid University in the Al-Far'a area of Abha city, that the ministry is working to facilitate the business environment in the region through a package of legislative reforms, which included reviewing and developing more than 110 regulations, the most prominent of which are: the Companies Law, the Commercial Franchise Law, the Anti-Concealment Law, the E-Commerce Law, and the organization of the National Center for Competitiveness, all of which enhance the attractive environment for local and international investors.
Regarding commercial registrations, Dr. Al-Qasabi pointed out that their number in the Kingdom reached more than 1.7 million registrations by April 2025, including 90,000 registrations in the Asir region, emphasizing that this growth reflects the increasing activity in economic sectors, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises.
He said: "The ministry has worked in the past period to correct the status of commercial registrations and update their data to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance transparency in the market, indicating that this correction is part of a package of measures that also aim to combat commercial concealment, which is one of the main challenges hindering the growth of the local economy. He added: "We succeeded in launching an extensive corrective campaign, and we provided traders with the opportunity to voluntarily adjust their situations, which contributed to reducing cases of concealment and significantly increasing the compliance rate."
On the oversight side, Minister Al-Qasabi confirmed that the Ministry of Commerce has intensified field inspection visits to establishments in the Asir region to ensure their compliance with regulations and to address violations, in order to build a fair and safe market environment for consumers and investors alike.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the support of the wise leadership for Asir opens new horizons in various sectors, and that the ministry will continue its efforts to facilitate procedures, support entrepreneurship, and empower investors in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030.
