The Canadian dollar rose slightly against its American counterpart after the Bank of Canada raised the key interest rate by (25) basis points to (2.50%), marking the first increase in more than three years to combat inflationary pressures resulting from rising energy prices.
Bank Governor Tiff Macklem indicated the possibility of further increases if inflation risks persist, while exercising caution amid economic uncertainty, as the bank raised its inflation forecast for 2027 to (3.1%), compared to (2%) previously.
