The annual report on the insurance market in Saudi Arabia, issued by the Insurance Authority, revealed an increase in the per capita spending on insurance in Saudi Arabia by 4.8%, reaching 2367 riyals in 2025, compared to 2259 riyals in 2024.
Increase in Written Premiums
According to the report, health insurance accounted for about 57% of the total amount spent by individuals on insurance in Saudi Arabia last year, while general insurance represented 33%, and protection and savings insurance made up the remaining 10%.
The report clarified that the insurance depth, represented by the ratio of total written insurance premiums to the non-oil GDP, decreased in 2025 to 2.25%, compared to 2.59% in 2024.
It pointed out that this decline does not reflect a contraction in insurance activity, as written premiums increased by about 11%, but the non-oil GDP grew at a faster pace, supported by the expansion of non-oil activities and sectors.
Annual Growth
The per capita spending on insurance, or insurance density, is defined as the total written insurance premiums during the year divided by the population.
The average annual compound growth rate of per capita spending on insurance services was about 18.5% during the period from 2021 to 2025, rising from 1200 riyals to 2367 riyals.
The national strategy for the insurance sector aims to raise the sector's contribution to the non-oil GDP to 3.6% by 2030.
