كشف الممثل التجاري الأمريكي جيميسون جرير، أمس (الجمعة)، أن واشنطن ستعاود فرض رسوم جمركية أعلى على سلع الاتحاد الأوروبي ما لم يفِ بالتزامات الاتفاق التجاري قبيل الموعد النهائي في الـ4 من يوليو.
وأضاف جرير لشبكة «فوكس بيزنس نتورك» أنه تحدث مع مسؤولين تجاريين من مختلف الدول الأوروبية والاتحاد الأوروبي خلال زيارة إلى أوروبا هذا الأسبوع، وعبر عن اعتقاده بأنهم «يركزون» على إجراء التغييرات اللازمة.
وتابع: «أكدوا لي التزامهم بالامتثال، نأمل أن يكون الأمر كذلك، لكننا نراقب الوضع عن كثب، وإذا لم يكن الأمر كذلك، فستعود الولايات المتحدة إلى هيكل الرسوم الجمركية السابق المفروض على الاتحاد الأوروبي».
وقال الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أمس الأول (الخميس)، إنه سيمهل الاتحاد الأوروبي حتى الـ4 من يوليو للوفاء بالتزاماته بموجب اتفاق التجارة الذي جرى التوصل إليه في اسكتلندا في شهر يوليو الماضي، قبل أن يرفع الرسوم الجمركية على سلع التكتل، بما في ذلك السيارات، إلى «مستويات أعلى بكثير».
U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer revealed yesterday (Friday) that Washington will reimpose higher tariffs on European Union goods unless it meets the commitments of the trade agreement before the deadline on July 4.
Greer added to Fox Business Network that he spoke with trade officials from various European countries and the European Union during a visit to Europe this week, expressing his belief that they are "focused" on making the necessary changes.
He continued: "They assured me of their commitment to compliance; we hope that is the case, but we are closely monitoring the situation, and if it is not, the United States will revert to the previous tariff structure imposed on the European Union."
U.S. President Donald Trump stated the day before yesterday (Thursday) that he would give the European Union until July 4 to fulfill its commitments under the trade agreement reached in Scotland last July, before raising tariffs on the bloc's goods, including cars, to "much higher levels."
