أكد وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسنت أن الحكومة لديها أموال وفيرة لتمويل الحرب مع إيران لكنها تطلب تمويلاً إضافياً من الكونغرس لضمان تزويد الجيش بالإمدادات الكافية في المستقبل.
واستبعد بيسنت، في مقابلة مع «إن.بي.سي نيوز»، ممارسة أي ضغوط من أجل إقرار زيادات ضريبية لتمويل الحرب.
ويواجه طلب الجيش الأمريكي الحصول على تمويل إضافي قدره 200 مليار دولار للحرب مع إيران معارضة شديدة في الكونغرس، إذ يشكك الديمقراطيون وحتى بعض الجمهوريين في ضرورة هذه الخطوة بعد إقرار اعتمادات دفاعية كبيرة العام الماضي. ودافع بيسنت عن طلب التمويل دون أن يؤكد قيمة المبلغ.
تمويل إضافي
ولم يرسل الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بعد طلباً إلى مجلس الشيوخ ومجلس النواب للموافقة على هذا المبلغ، فيما أوضحت إدارته أن الرقم قد يتغير.
وأضاف بيسنت: «لدينا أموال وفيرة لتمويل هذه الحرب، وهذا تمويل إضافي، لقد عمل الرئيس ترمب على تعزيز الجيش، كما فعل في ولايته الأولى، وكما يفعل الآن في ولايته الثانية، وهو يريد التأكد من أن الجيش مزود جيداً بالإمدادات في الفترة القادمة».
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisent confirmed that the government has ample funds to finance the war with Iran, but it is seeking additional funding from Congress to ensure the military is adequately supplied in the future.
Pisent ruled out, in an interview with NBC News, any pressure to enact tax increases to fund the war.
The U.S. Army's request for an additional $200 billion for the war with Iran faces strong opposition in Congress, as Democrats and even some Republicans question the necessity of this step after significant defense appropriations were approved last year. Pisent defended the funding request without confirming the amount.
Additional Funding
President Donald Trump has not yet submitted a request to the Senate and House of Representatives for approval of this amount, while his administration clarified that the figure may change.
Pisent added, "We have ample funds to finance this war, and this is additional funding. President Trump has worked to strengthen the military, as he did in his first term, and as he is doing now in his second term, and he wants to ensure that the military is well supplied in the coming period."
