أكد كبير المفاوضين التجاريين الكوريين الجنوبيين، أمس (الأحد)، أنه سيطرح مخاوفه بشأن القيود الأمريكية المحتملة على شركات تصنيع الرقائق في الصين عندما يلتقي بالمسؤولين الأمريكيين في واشنطن هذا الأسبوع في الجولة الثالثة من المناقشات الفنية بشأن محادثات الرسوم الجمركية.
ورد وزير التجارة الكورية الجنوبية يو هان كو على الصحفيين قبل مغادرته إلى واشنطن بعد سؤاله عن مخاوف احتمال تبني الولايات المتحدة سياسات تُصعّب على شركات تصنيع الرقائق الأجنبية العمل في الصين: «سأنقل مخاوف العاملين في هذا القطاع للمسؤولين الأمريكيين، وسأبذل أقصى جهدي في ذلك الملف، مع توخي أقصى درجات الحيطة والحذر».
وقال يو: «إن سيئول قد لا تلتزم بالموعد النهائي لإتمام المفاوضات في شهر يوليو»، ما يشير إلى أن المحادثات قد تستمر إلى ما بعد 8 يوليو وسط حالة من عدم اليقين السياسي والاقتصادي في الولايات المتحدة.
وتخضع كوريا الجنوبية حالياً لتعريفة جمركية شاملة بنسبة 10% مع تعليق مؤقت لرسوم جمركية خاصة بها بنسبة 25% لمدة 90 يوماً فقط، وقد اتفقت مع الولايات المتحدة في أولى جولات محادثات التجارة في أواخر شهر أبريل الماضي على صياغة اتفاقية تجارية تخفض التعريفات الجمركية بحلول 8 يوليو.

The chief trade negotiator of South Korea confirmed yesterday (Sunday) that he will raise his concerns about potential U.S. restrictions on chip manufacturing companies in China when he meets with U.S. officials in Washington this week during the third round of technical discussions on tariff talks.
South Korean Trade Minister Yoo Han-koo responded to reporters before departing for Washington when asked about concerns that the United States might adopt policies that make it difficult for foreign chip manufacturers to operate in China: "I will convey the concerns of those working in this sector to U.S. officials, and I will do my utmost in this matter, while exercising the utmost caution."
Yoo stated, "Seoul may not meet the deadline for completing negotiations in July," indicating that talks could extend beyond July 8 amid political and economic uncertainty in the United States.
South Korea is currently subject to a comprehensive tariff of 10% with a temporary suspension of its own 25% tariffs for only 90 days, and it agreed with the United States during the first round of trade talks in late April to formulate a trade agreement that reduces tariffs by July 8.
