أعلن وزير الخزانة الأمريكي سكوت بيسنت، أن المحادثات التجارية مع الصين متعثرة قليلا. واقترح أن يتدخّل الرئيس الأمريكي ونظيره الصيني فيها.
وصرح بيسنت لشبكة فوكس نيوز عندما سُئل عن المحادثات التجارة الجارية مع بكين «أستطيع أن أقول إنها متعثرة قليلا».
وقال:«أعتقد أننا سنجري المزيد من المناقشات معهم في الأسابيع القادمة، وأعتقد أنه قد يكون هناك، في مرحلة ما، اتصال هاتفي بين الرئيس دونالد ترمب والرئيس شي جينبينغ».
وكانت أكبر قوتين اقتصاديتين في العالم اتفقتا في شهر مايو على تعليق الرسوم الجمركية المتبادلة لمدة 90 يوما؛ ما مثّل خفضا للتصعيد في خضم حرب تجارية بعد محادثات بين مسؤولين رفيعي المستوى من الجانبين في جنيف.
وفي إطار هذه الهدنة التجارية، وافقت واشنطن على خفض الرسوم الجمركية على الواردات الصينية مؤقتا من 145% إلى 30%، في حين قالت الصين إنها ستخفض رسومها الجمركية على السلع الأمريكية المستوردة من 125% إلى 10%.
من ناحية أخرة، ذكرت وول ستريت جورنال، أخيراً، نقلا عن مصادر مطلعة أن إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تدرس اتخاذ إجراء بديل بشكل مؤقت لفرض رسوم جمركية على قطاعات كبيرة من الاقتصاد العالمي بموجب قانون قائم يتضمن بنودا تسمح بفرض رسوم جمركية تصل إلى 15% لمدة 150 يوما.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisent announced that trade talks with China are a bit stalled. He suggested that the U.S. president and his Chinese counterpart should intervene in them.
Pisent stated to Fox News when asked about the ongoing trade talks with Beijing, "I can say they are a bit stalled."
He said, "I think we will have more discussions with them in the coming weeks, and I believe there may be, at some point, a phone call between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping."
The two largest economies in the world agreed in May to suspend reciprocal tariffs for 90 days; this represented a de-escalation amid a trade war following talks between senior officials from both sides in Geneva.
As part of this trade truce, Washington agreed to temporarily reduce tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China stated it would lower its tariffs on imported U.S. goods from 125% to 10%.
On another note, the Wall Street Journal recently reported, citing informed sources, that the administration of President Donald Trump is considering taking alternative action temporarily to impose tariffs on large sectors of the global economy under an existing law that includes provisions allowing tariffs of up to 15% for 150 days.
