In a quiet corner of the "Colors of Al-Baha" exhibition at Dar Awda in Al-Atawlah, a different painting catches your attention. Not because it is the most beautiful or the most striking, but because it resembles a farewell and pulses with presence despite the absence.
The painting was crafted by the late artist Saeed Lafi with his own hand, making it the last thing he said, the last thing he did, and the last living mark he left before his body fell silent.
He did not know, as he wrote the Arabic letters with the dedication of a loving heart, that it would be "the last painting." A painting that was not only displayed among the contributions but also attached itself to the hearts of the exhibition's visitors, as it carries his spirit and summarizes his journey, becoming a visual elegy that mourns him.
Saeed Lafi was not just a calligrapher; he was a messenger of the letters, a lover of identity, and a shining face of Saudi art.
He attended events carrying his tools not as someone performing a task, but as someone living love in all its details.
He represented his homeland with his patriotism before his craft, raising the banner of Arabic calligraphy in forums both inside and outside the country, believing that every letter drawn is an extension of a beauty that is broader than form, a beauty that resides in both the human and the place.
Saeed has departed, but he remains in the letters he wrote and in the painting he created with unforgettable vigor.
