أطلقت جهات التحقيق المختصة سراح المخرج المصري عمر زهران بعد قضاء نصف المدة المقررة على حكم سجنه في اتهامه بسرقة مجوهرات زوجة المخرج خالد يوسف الفنانة التشكيلية شاليمار شربتلي.
وقررت محكمة النقض، حجز الطعن المقدم من المخرج عمر زهران على حكم حبسه لمدة عام واحد مع الشغل، في القضية المتهم فيها بسرقة مجوهرات من شاليمار شربتلي، والتي تبلغ قيمتها نحو 2.5 مليون دولار، لجلسة 18 يونيو للنطق بالحكم.
وأصدرت محكمة جنح مستأنف الجيزة حكما في يناير 2025 بتخفيف عقوبة الحبس الصادرة بحق المتهم من سنتين إلى سنة واحدة مع الشغل، وذلك مع تأييد الحكم المدني بإلزامه بدفع 40 ألف جنيه كتعويض مدني مؤقت لصالح المدعية بالحق المدني.
بداية القضية كانت بلاغا من زوجة خالد يوسف شاليمار شربتلي ضد عمر زهران، اتهمته فيها بسرقة مجوهرات خاصة بها كانت تحتفظ بها في شقتها بأحد الفنادق، واتهمته زوجة خالد يوسف باستغلال ثقتها فيه وسرقة المجوهرات بالاستعانة بمعاونه عنتر.
عمر زهران نفى قيامه بارتكاب السرقة، وتولى الدفاع عنه المحامي الشهير مرتضى منصور، الذي دفع بأن القضية كيدية، وسلم المحكمة صورا من إيصالات أمانة على خالد يوسف، كانت المدعية أودعتها لدى عمر زهران قبل 5 سنوات، واعتبرها الدفاع دليلا على الاتهام الكيدي.
The relevant investigative authorities have released Egyptian director Omar Zahran after serving half of the sentence imposed on him for allegedly stealing jewelry belonging to the wife of director Khaled Youssef, the visual artist Shalimar Sherbatly.
The Court of Cassation decided to reserve the appeal submitted by director Omar Zahran against the one-year imprisonment sentence with hard labor in the case in which he is accused of stealing jewelry from Shalimar Sherbatly, valued at approximately 2.5 million dollars, for the session on June 18 to issue a ruling.
The Giza Misdemeanor Appeals Court issued a ruling in January 2025 to reduce the defendant's prison sentence from two years to one year with hard labor, while upholding the civil ruling obligating him to pay 40,000 Egyptian pounds as temporary civil compensation to the plaintiff.
The case began with a complaint from Khaled Youssef's wife, Shalimar Sherbatly, against Omar Zahran, accusing him of stealing her personal jewelry that she had kept in her apartment at a hotel. Khaled Youssef's wife accused him of exploiting her trust and stealing the jewelry with the help of his accomplice, Antar.
Omar Zahran denied committing the theft, and the famous lawyer Mortada Mansour defended him, arguing that the case was fabricated. He presented the court with copies of receipts related to Khaled Youssef that the plaintiff had deposited with Omar Zahran five years ago, which the defense considered evidence of the fabricated accusation.
