"New Middle East," this term has been echoed by Netanyahu and other Israeli officials during the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. It is not a new term in the political lexicon, but its meaning varies for each speaker. For example, America wants it to be a chessboard where it moves its pawns according to its interests, even if it requires igniting wars. Other major countries like Russia, China, and symbols of the European continent are keen on maintaining their influence and preserving political and economic interests. The Kingdom and Gulf states envision it as a "Middle East of prosperity, development, stability, security, peace, and balanced relations that respect the sovereignty of nations and achieve benefits for all." But what is Israel's concept of the new Middle East, or what does it mean by it?
We can largely infer this from Israeli political thought since the establishment of the entity until now, the discourse that always frames it, and the events that the region has gone through, including wars and conflicts. This thought is intertwined and governed by myths, promises, dreams, and illusions of a divine right to dominate and expand, even though we are now living in a world governed by laws, charters, and international treaties that are supposed to respect the sovereignty, borders, and national rights of states. Israel still lives on the myth of the promised borders from the river to the sea, and continues to entrench and export the idea that its surroundings want to eliminate it; therefore, it must protect itself preemptively as a legitimate right. It has become addicted to the state of war despite the peace projects that have been presented and continue to be rejected, and it denies the Palestinian people's right to establish their state on their usurped homeland.
Among what the new Middle East means, according to Israel's concept and desire, is to be the only dominant military power in it, deciding as it pleases and meddling as it wishes, expanding as it desires. It is terrified of having strong and stable political and economic countries and blocs in the region, as this threatens its dreams. It wants a new Middle East defined by its corrupt and dangerous specifications, and this must be confronted by all means.
