My heart shatters when I see children being thrust into a brutal war. The Houthis care nothing for childhood, women, or the elderly; they throw innocent people into a conflict where their only desire is to live in safety, only to find themselves fuel for a deadly, losing war that is claimed to be a holy struggle in which they play the role of "the sanctity of God’s secret." Indeed, religious wars based on metaphysical beliefs are in dire need of reform, as they are built on weak, fabricated foundations, and as time has passed, no review or correction of those foundations has taken place.
I return to the images of children who are cast into the flames of a war where they know nothing except that they are striving to support "the sanctity of God’s secret," if they even understand what "the sanctity of God’s secret" means. My heart truly aches every time I see a child being shot at or one who is captured and crying, a child around 12 years old who does not understand what has brought him into this war. The children of the Houthi war take me back to the time I was writing my novel "The Agony of the Temptress," a novel in which I portrayed the tragedy of those children in war. "The Agony of the Temptress" is a testament to an era, a war, and a tragedy; in the novel, a child is killed among the rocks of a mountain, crying out to his mother to save him while she is far away, as he has slipped from her hands to fight, unable to even utter the word jihad.
This is how children are pushed to become fuel for igniting a battle in which they have no stake whatsoever.
I believe that sharing excerpts about those children will provoke a violent reaction among parents to protect their children from becoming fuel for a war that has neither "the sanctity of God’s secret" nor any meaning of a safe life.
